Default Hyundai ix35 and Kia Sportage - Opinions and alternatives please

Friend of mine is thinking of buying a crossover. Current favourites are the Hyundai ix35 and the Kia Sportage. Anyone got one, had one or any experience of one? Also any better alternatives?

Kuga, those two will depreciate like a rock, whereas the kuga imo is the best in the ford range to retain its value

She really likes the Kuga but was put off by the lack of boot space. I agree with you about the depreciation though.

Think the trade off is better rear seat legroom (on the newer models) on kuga.. Kia and hyundai is a good product now, much better than the likes of peugeot/citreon etc.. But there still one of the worst for holding their value

Had a 1.7 diesel iX35 as a hire car last year, did really good MPG on the motorway, had lots of toys and was surprisingly nice to drive about in given it was snowing

I was disgusted with myself for not hating it to be honest

My friend has a Kuga titanium and its a lovely car. Who needs a boot when you have rear seats.

That is appealing, and the ford when new can be topped up to 5 year for not a lot of money; imo though it should come with the 5yr as standard

I bought a KIA C'eed about a year ago. really impressed with the car but their servicing costs a fortune.. nearly £340 for a basic service and MOT.. from the dealer in Basingstoke..

but the 7 year warranty is a real plus point

That sounds a bit of a rip-off?

I know on the Hyundais (I work in a main dealer which is also Ford repairer), the 2nd service is a bit pricey (£250ish) as includes brake fluid change, plugs (on petrol models) and all filters. But most other regular 'basic' services are on a menu pricing and around £150.

As all cars they have their faults but the warranty is quite good and fair (much easier to claim for) than Ford for example. Parts for them are expensive, and sometimes a job to get hold of being on back order.
