Exhaust heat wrapping

What is the general view on it, i've bought some wrap to cover the downpipe due to have hydraulic clutch etc so don't want stuff fucking up. But it hasn't the best reputations and some say it can cause cracked downpipes is this right or unlikely?

Wouldnt worry too much about a dowpipe.
But yes heat wrapping can lead to premature cracking of stainless and probably mild steel too.
But as the downpipe doesnt see anywhere near the same heat as the manifold, it will last a very very long time. Plus make sure the DP etc fits and isnt strained or stressed at all which can also lead to stress cracks etc.
The "titanium" wrap seems to get the best reviews.

I used cheap heat wrap on my manifold and complete system on my cossie 5
It did a great job, you could go out for a drive then hug the manifold but if you went near the turbo it would burn you.
The manifold held up fine (std 2wd)
My exhaust is a 3" straight off the turbo, about 3 90* bends then gets to a Y joint about 2' from the turbo then goes into 2 x 2 1/2" pipes.
After a few thousand miles it cracked on the Y joint.
The wrap I used was cheap and I sealed it with vht paint but it still broke up and covered EVERYTHING in small fibres. Made a real horrible mess.
I then got the manifold and turbo ceramic coated inside and out, this has not worked in the slightest!
My engine is mid mounted though so has no air flow over the parts and evidently they need the air flow to work.
I am going to now fit good quality wrap over the parts and get a turbo jacket.
