Just How bad is supermarket fuel?

Just How bad is supermarket fuel?
The reason i ask is that the Sainsbury's at the Kingsgate retail park is doing 97 ron for 82.9 pence, exactly the same price as normal unleaded.
I asked the guy before filling up 'that's definately super in that pump'
He replied 'yeah, definately.. believe it or not it was cheaper than unleaded on saturday'
He reckoned it was some fook up at head office.. i told him not to breath a word and promptly filled it... seemed rude not to.

Super market fuel is basic fuel...
that is to say there are very few if any additives that you want.
You'll often find plenty of detergent in the petrol... but then again thats cheaper than fuel LOL.
Stick to someone like Esso/BP/SHell for quality fuel

Supermarkets purchase their fuel from the cheaper Eastern block. They have higher levels of conatamenents than other fuels. I will only use Shell Optimax in the RS and if i have to stick anything else in it's Esso Super Plus or as a final resort BP Ultimate. Do use supermarket fuel in the Audi though as I don't really care about it. Anyway sooner it dies the sooner I can transplant the 1.8 turbo lump into it

On a lighter note though I was at the petrol station the other week and the female attendant ran out and asked me if I realised that I was filling up with LRP as the car didnt look old enough to run on it its a 17 year old escort FFS

Ey, there was a program on it a long long time ago. At the end of the day you can't replace lead! They showed a pic of 2 turbines out of a turbo. One LRP, one 4star over 7 years. One was fine, one looked like it had been dipped in acid, not alot left of it!!! Did no-one hear about the conflict of releasing LRP at the time of banning 4star because it was shite?

Right Im feel I can answer this one seeing as though its kinda my field
Last year I passed my ADR course and trained as a Tanker driver and was offered a job with BP Fuels working from the kingsbury petrol terminal .
ALL THE PETROL DELIVERED TO SUPERMARKETS ARE THE SAME AS WHAT YOU WOULD BUY FROM ANY SPECIALIST RETAILER eg BP ESSO SHELL .
The supermarkets arent intrested in making a profit from petrol sales at all an in actuall fact sell petrol at a LOSS !
This is because they think by selling the cheaper petrol you will start using their supermarket for your food shop .
Which when you think about it is good economics , if you spend say £75 on a weekly food shop they reward you with knocking a couple of quid of the price of a fill up but theyve already made £50 off you from the shopping
