They made mk1 mk2 and mk3 orions
To be a saloon version of the mk3 mk4 and mk5 escort
Don't see many now but they were never given the performance of the hatchbacks and they rot like any other old Ford

I had two Mk1 Orion Ghia injections both just high spec saloon versions of XR3i Escorts. Cloth roof linings, passenger sun visor lights...

Loved em!

I had a 86 orion ghia until some bint went into the back of it.

All the usual bits S1 wheels, clear indicators, 3i lower front spoiler, RS boot spoiler. Great car cheaper to insure than a 3i and just as nippy.

Yeah normal 1.6i
Not rs turbo or rs 2000 performance models
The closest they get to a sports version is an rs option kit on the Std car

What?

The Mondeo was the replacement for the Sierra, and came in hatch, saloon and estate models, just as the Sierra did.

The Orion was a saloon version of the Escort (which came in estate and hatch form, until the mk6, when the Orion was renamed Escort). The Focus replaced the Escort (saloon, hatch, and estate), and came in saloon, hatch and estate.

blimey talk about nit picking, the orion name and sierra ceased around the same time, hence the birth of the mondeo in various guises, and as the subject was orions rather than renamed escort saloons

Sisters bf's old Onion circa 1998!! Started life as a 1.6i ghia in gold. Then went the capri 280 green, 2.8i injection capri stripes, mfi rs turbo conversion, s1 wheels and 2wd saff cloth front seats, s1 rear seats!! Also had an rs1600i front arb/subframe conversion too. Was stolen

It's not nit picking at all. Just because the name disappeared at the same time doesn't mean the Mondeo was the replacement for the Orion. All it means is the Orion name was dropped and Escort was used instead. Which frankly made much more sense, since the Orion always was a saloon version of an Escort.

As you said, the Focus replaced the Escort, but the Mondeo didn't replace the Orion; it became part of the Escort family, which was later replaced by the Focus family. The Mondeo family (in "various guises") replace the (various guises of) the Sierra family. I'm sorry you're upset, but the info you posted is wrong. Don't get bent out of shape when someone corrects you

So you get upset at someone "nit picking" you, then you post possibly the most pedantic comment ever in your defence? Jesus wept....

upset you have me confused with someone else, I remember the weekly bulletins that us ford staff got at the time as most were for the sales staff attention really as 93/94 was a important busy year at ford dealerships and was also my 10 years service in 93, all sales staff were directed to steer all customers towards the new mondeo as a alternate to the sierra/orion as officially the orion was dead so really it applys to both models

Yes, upset. The repugnant displeasure at being "nit picked", the over compensating replies citing your "credentials" and CV highlights.

And no, the Mondeo didn't replace the Orion. It replaced the Sierra.

It's hardly nit picking, he was just correcting you on a statement you made, which is incorrect!

I was about to post the exact same thing, until I saw he had already done so!

As an ex Orion owner, thought I'd share pic of my old faithful car, 12 years of perfect service and much classier than an Escort!

it was the K plate white one shown in my photo above, was a truly brilliant car and one of the worst car decisions I made getting rid as it was just such a good car

Had three myself. Loved my 1.6I Ghia, XR3I performance with a few groups lower insurance.
Best for performance was easily the SI130 until it went bang!
Escort saloon doesn't count

Theres a one owner orion thats had a front end knock near me, needs a new wing and the scuttle straightening. Was really tidy before the accident, its just sat there rotting. I offered him £100 for it a couple of years ago. It would have needed little work to get back on the road but he's holding some hope of repairing/restoring it. He looked a bit deflated when i told him it would still only be worth £500 tops after! Its worth nothing more than scrap now
