Default Best underseal to use

Evening folks.

Just wondering what the best stuff to use underneath is?

I'm after the rubbery type stuff that can be painted over but I haven't got a clue what to get.

I had the underneath done (I think I have been) about May/June last year and the guy that did the work said he used a proper rust treatment and underseal and he took it back to bare metal.

Now the car hasn't yet been on the road since being done and it's been stored in my garage so not exactly open to the elements but already I've got quite a bit of rust coming back. Now I expected a bit to come back maybe after a couple of years but 6 months?!!

Now I'm far from an expert on bodywork (which is why I pay for the work to be done) but to me that looks like a combination of the decent stuff not being used and inadequate prep.

I'm proper pissed off about it and I'm a bit unsure what to do at the mo, if I keep the car, I'm going to have get it done again so want to make sure the proper stuff is used. Considering reshelling it into an Escos though.

Any recommendations on the best stuff to use?

I think you know my thoughts on his products and workmanship, I would have the car back at his garage and DEMAND its sorted or a full refund should be given as proper stuff so to speak would not do this

I was fucking livid when I found the bit on the sill Steve!! I went straight down the bodyshop and made him come up the garage and look at it and his words were simply 'fucking hell'!!

He said to get it finished, take it down and he'll touch in/redo the bits that need doing but IMO the whole thing needs stripping back completely and redoing with the proper stuff!!

So very pissed off.

I just can't seem to find anyone who gives a shit about anything they do on my car!! I don't understand!! I don't haggle with people's prices, if they want x amount, I'll pay x amount and yet I still end up with shit.

Looks like it may have been damp when he sprayed it, trapping moisture under the paint

If you're going to keep the car it would be best to strip it all of and do it properly...

Eit to add this is too much rust for 6 months!

No way that was bare metaled and treated last June, he probably just gave it a quick wire brush and painted over it

Exactly mate, I wasn't expecting anything to never come back but I thought it would keep it at bay for 2-3 years before needing anymore attention. I'm scared to drive it in case in rains while I'm out and it starts disentegrating before I can get it back in the garage!!!

I just can't understand why everybody I use to do anything on my car messes me around and does a shit job!! It must be me.

For me to be happy with it, the car needs to be totally stripped back underneath and redone again but it's taken me 4 years to get the car running again so far so to have to strip it all down again is a massive kick in the bollocks. When I think of what I have to do to the car to make me happy with it (the rear arches need replacing, the whole car needs painting AGAIN and now the underside AGAIN), it makes me think, should I just look for another car?!! I'm totally gutted as I've put everything I had into this car and due to people not giving a shit, they've ruined it IMO.

Matey ive been messed about and robbed too. It must be sickening matey but I think the car needs to go to a bodyshop with enthusiasts doing the work. Get the car up to Durham give me a shout and I will help you strip the car down.

I'm not sure I've got it in me to do it all again Glenn.

I'm sick and tired of being let down now. I've been awake all night thinking about what to do and if I'm completely honest, I'm seriously considering just finishing with it totally, getting rid and buying nothing else.

So disheartened with it now.

Is it too much to ask to have a proper job done and for people to give a shit?!!

How's yours coming along now?

Like I said before mate, it's something to do with White sapphires!!

Cheers for the offer mate, just very unsure of what to do at the moment. Part of me wants to carry on with it (it's very close, should be running next month), part of me wants to buy another car and put all the stuff in that (found an Escos I'm tempted by) and part of me wants to give up altogether.

Cheeky sod!! Lol!

As you know mate, I don't really have a lot of spare time hence why it's taken so long to build!!

I've now decided to look for another car. Going to get mine running to make sure all is well with the running gear and then put all my stuff into it.

Truly gutted.

How's you anyway?

Better the devil you know than the devil you dont. In other words new car os new problems

If i where you id strip it yourself, a weeks solid work could have it done. Then you know its done properly, Im guessing the running gear is allready clean and powdercoated?

I did bodywork for 4/5 years mate and no way was that taken back the bare metal,
it does nt matter if you use the best/most expensive sealer in the world , if its just put on over rust it ll always come through again,
the only thing your bodyman has done there is paper over the cracks mate

Imo carry on with that without a doubt.

So you know that it hasn't been done properly, and he's just stone chipped over everything and dusted over it with white. You have a non rotten base shell that doesn't require welding, it's still gonna be cheaper to re restore this than it will to buy another car, get it welded innevitably, and then get that restored.

And once it's done properly it should last a good 15-20 years before needing doing again.

I'd wire wheel it all back, use some kurust or fe123 rust converter on it, and epoxy prime it and top coat it with epoxy mastic then just waxoyl the bottom and sump oil in the cavities.

My 2 pence

Just because a cars locked away don't mean to say it's not going to rust.

There made to be used, you won't ever stop the rust on these old ford's. Use and enjoy it
