Default Differences on ST170 Engine (Zetec Turbo)

Hi,

Im thinking of building a zetec turbo engine using karlos G's great guide, but for my application it will be a RWD sierra it is going in...

now this gives me a few small issues..

1. How do I identify the ST170 block out of the car..
2. I believe this engine is based upon the black top engine, and from reading up the sump from a CVH doesnt fit as the blacktops sump is a 2 piece unit - what solutions are available to this (all googling seems to find me silvertop questions)
3. What turbo is best for ~200 bhp?

Thanks

Nath

Hi mate, glad my guide is helpful!
What is the issue with the sump, why did you want to fit a CVH one?
Turbo for 200bhp I would use a MK1 Focus RS turbo and manifold, will be spot on as essentially it is just a black top Zetec like the ST170.

I am concerned about oil surge in the RWD format as the car is for track use mainly, so want to have the oil towards the back of the engine.

From the reading I have done online, the CVH sump (from a sierra not RST) will allow this, as they bolt straight up to the silvertop but the blacktop has a 2 piece sump..

Im only just getting my teeth into this part of the project - the car is not long ready for mapping on a sacrificial 2.0 Sierra DOHC (using Megasquirt) and a bit of fun this year - whilst I take my time to build this up to be dropped in towards the end of the year..

If the cvh sump fits the silvertop it will go on the black top too. Oil pick up etc will need changing to suit though.

excellent news that - I like the raceline item but its a bit on the pricey side for a budget build that if its lucky will see 1000 miles a year

The 1800cvh sump needs cutting about and welding to fit the blacktop due to a difference in the design of the oil pump. I've got one on my engine stand at the moment

Yes I was about to say this, I also have one here that's had an oil return and breather fitted to it if you need one?
