Sometimes having a car that I can only use a few times a year gets annoying a 996/7 could be the answer ? 400 odd hp standard and you can use every day ?(just what I have read) and track it just don't know anyone that's had one

I am starting to see a few Porsches and I deff get them great cars so I would recommend taking a look at them.
I will be having a 996 and plan is running at 650hp and a daily driver.

A friend of mine has just sold his 996 turbo
It had a remap, exhaust, intercoolers and dump valves I think all changed. Ran a bit more boost and "only" made 470bhp on paper but it was mentally fast! Felt a lot faster than 470bhp. Very nice car but he sold it after not very long as he wanted a newer one as they are very dated internally, they feel 20yrs old.
(Same thing that's putting me off an 05 reg cayenne.)
He ended up buying a fairly new c63 instead and is much happier with that. Before the Porsche he had a new M5 and a new RS4 the Porsche was by far the fastest.

They feel very dated inside 996 and l passionately hate the phone connectivity system, taking your sim card out is a pain in the arse,

I will be looking at a 997 next year all being well

Personally I had no issues whatsoever with both cars but the mileage was low on both ,23k and 31k respectively with strictly full OPC maintenance & warranty .

But Like any ageing vehicle I'm sure there are issues with age , wear and tear and corrosion .

Lovely cars I'd just be scared of the repair costs around 100k new means 100k car running costs.

I'd say compared to an expensive BMW, Merc or Audi, the chances of a huge bill are far less with the Porsche

Porsches are built properly and with German parts.

Half the mega expensive stuff from other makes are stuffed full of Chinese or other foreign crap

Sure Mark @ MAD would do a great job if given a porker, but for me I'd be taking it straight to 9e. If I were to come into a signficant sum of money a porsche would def be my daily.

I just looked at the servicing costs to be fair they don't seem that bad it all comes down to how the cars been looked after still a gamble without a warranty though.

Get signed up on 911uk.com

I have a 996C2. Great cars, fun, handle fantastic but not a comfy car. not quiet either, but depends on what your used to. The turbo engine is fairly trouble free but as with any car its the luck of the draw. you may get a good one or end up with a dog.

There's lots of company's out there that will offer a pre purchase inspection. This will flag up any things that may need sorting.

X50 pack is the one to go for as they have different down pipes and intercooler a and a remap from the factory.

The turbos dont have the bottom end problems that the NA cars have either.

Drive an auto x50 and though it was crap. A std manual turbo felt amazing.

996 turbo is dirt cheap now.

Can you update the front wings to the 997 easy enough? It's just those headlights that spoil the look of the car, feck knows what porsche were thinking when they changed them from the 993 style to 996!

I live in brum and can tell you as much as I'm a proud brummie there are parts of the city I wouldn't even consider a Ł500 runaround from, let alone summat like this Was trying to work out where this is but couldn't make out the road name.

My mate had a manual one with decent exhaust, it was running about 450bhp and was very quick, it didn't really come alive until doing silly speeds. The metzger engines don't have any of the 996 reliability issues and I don't think there have been any failures on anynofmthe engines....good job too as a rebuild would be Ł20k. You do need to check the air con rads as they get leaves in them and they corrode, it cost us over Ł1000 to fix on my wife's 996 cab. Many were auto tip, it is the same box as my e55 AMG had but with a different shift map and it seems to just want to get up in to top gear as soon as it can which does dull the response. I had a torque converter go on the AMG and it cost over Ł2k to fix but that had 500lbft of torque.

Great cars at Ł25k but they do come with Ł100k value bills so get the, inspected, new discs and pads could be scrimped on by the previous owner and will land you with a big bill.

You can get a dual sim from Vodafone for the PCM so you can run the car phone alongside your own phone on the same number.

There aren't many cars that can be tuned to 700 bhp without having to open up the engine, while still being nice to drive daily and staying reliable.

The GT2 kit really transforms the 996 from a nice but bit dull looking car into a proper super car.
