Passionmitsubishi3000GT
Anyone on here know much about the Mitsubishi 3000GT? specfically the 6g72 3.0 twin turbo engine??
The 6g74 lump in my shogun has exploded in spectacular fashion and being the rare GDI lump, its thousands to replace if i can find one in good nick that doesnt need work doing to it!! So if the warranty wont cover it then i may be stiffed and need to think of another lump.
Seen 3000GT lumps with sensible miles going for a grand on egay and other sites.
I know they fit the shogun (direct bolt on gearbox, bit of work for ancilliaries) as people done it before in US and Australia.
Anyone know how hard the engine is to strip down and rebuild??
The basic rebuild kits seem quite cheap and a bit of web searching shows them to be fairly strong lumps when looked after so it would make sense to do a basic rebuild before fitting.
Also what is there reliability like with moderate tune on?? thinking 350bhp and similar torque and leave it at that for reliability leaving me with a moderately quick and entertaining daily drive.
Any jap car fans in the know??

Warren i wouldnt be fucked on mate.
fit a 3.5GDi out of a pajero, think they are about 220bhp and the best engine they put in them, its circa 1997.
i drove a Snow Athlete with this setup and it went like fook for a LWB jobbie!!
they love the GDi in countries it was available (not many due to needing high octane)

Looks like it . They just fob you off hoping youll go away. I wont but will be without a car for a long time . Keep your cool when phoning them & make a record of dates & times you have phoned & what was said. Phone CAB & get it logged with them.

not too sure on engine availabilty or ease of conversion but mate had a twin turbo 3000gt it was epically heavy on fuel, slower that my standard 620ti rover and looked impossible to even shine a torch down the side of the engine let alone work on the fucker!

Plenty of room up front for rads, coolers etc. ECU is standalone and the shogun is a 1999 design in wiring terms so still simple enough for me to wire in the new engine and get round immobilisor issues.
people think the GTO's were slow due to a poor engine. Incorrect, they were slow as they weighed 1700kg!!!!!!! power to weight!! the SWB shogun of mine weighs 1880kg so not hugely heavier.
Even as a standard engine that would take the shogun from 220bhp to 300bhp with 350bhp a couple simple steps away. Plus low level of tune would likely be reliable. Would make the truck go from being ok to drive to having a nice dose of straight line power when you feel the need.
