Default Escort Cossies converted to 2wd - what they like?

As above really,

I've decided that I don't really want my saph anymore as it's starting to piss me off and I'm really starting to hate the fucking thing so I've decided to reshell it into an Escort Cossie.

What are they like to drive in 2wd form? I've heard that some people really rate them in 2wd and some people think they don't drive right, too twitchy etc.....

Just want people's opinions on how they find them to drive!

And I don't care if people think it's the wrong thing to do an Escort Cossie either!! It's a Ford Escort, not the Mona Lisa!! Lol!

Fun but very skittish, make sure you find a good shell as they rot just as much as saffs do

I converted my big turbo escort to rwd!

It would go sideways without warning , apart from that better in every way !

2wd saph was my favourite car , drives and handles far better than all the rest !

I've owned 3doors ,2wd saphs , 4x4 saphs
And my escort ,which I converted to rwd

Have to agree 2wd saff is the best 4x4 just feels heavy.

And as Dave said a 2wd escos would be dangerous as there not designed to be rwd. Don't get me wrong there not a bad car imo they are just heavy but for the point and squirt factor there great.

dangerous IMO and im not a shit driver by any means..

i suppose with the right rear beam and a proper suspension setup it could be a lot better and fun too but a standard escos with shitty worn suspension and 2wd i would consider a bit of a death trap and no faster round bends etc.

depends what you wanna do really, smokey burn outs out of pub car parks definately better 2wd but a good handling escort IMO should be 4wd (uprated of course)

Dangerous sounds fun!!!

I don't scrimp on my cars, if I can't afford to do it properly, I don't do it.

It will have the 6 degree beam, suspension, Supra diff etc from my saph so it's not like I'm converting it to 2wd with shit, wanked out suspension and bushes.

and i agree with dangerous is fun but sliding everywhere all the time does get old lol.

maybe thats why i think Drifting is the most pathetic form of motorsport ever.

My saph used to be 4x4 but I just got bored of breaking gearboxes and just generally got bored with the car in general so that's why I converted it.

Look at my dads wrc spec escort..thats rwd and beats many 4x4 cars..theres a video somewhere on here were he had a race with a silver evo at castle coombe a few years back...

Hes also had a few rwd escorts on the road and he said they out handle any of the other cossies and made the escort feel a much better car in rwd..

It was only 4x4 as it was a rally car...

Just a shame the saph is a bag of shit. I just hate it now mate.

I'll get the saph running and driving so I know all is well with the running gear and go from there.

As much as I hate it, I know I'll be seriously gutted when it goes. I know that sounds daft!!

Right up until it rains

I'm sure it could be made to work, but would no doubt require some effort. A shorter wheel base and wider track will always make for a more lairy car unfortunately.

i think thats a fair point, but with the right bits... i still struggle to understand why they would develop the car as a 4x4 if 2wd would have been better for it...

ive driven owned both and ill go with 4x4, with a stronger box of course.

I hear you Steve but although the ST is a nice car and reasonably nippy but as it's my daily, I can't have that as my toy as I need it reliable.

I know you and whatever you buy will be a time & money pit, got a cheap hobby fun car for the crack when you get the odd day off or fix up one of the other garden fords you have
