No boost at all??
Celica gt4 again!!!
Sorted engine management light n the car is saying no faults!
Checked the turbo and there is no play what so ever!
Actuater. Seems fine,
The boost gauge isn't building up past neutral....
Any ideas?

Is it an ST205 or the earlier ST185 ?
The 185's eat head gaskets worse than the worst K series.
205's generally much better though. But unless it was really buggered, you'd expect to see some boost.
As for removing turbo in the morning....leave a full day for it ! lol
What do the spark plugs look like ?

does the turbo shaft spin freely ?
it may not feel like any play but if its jammed it will feel tight and wont turn.
white/blue smoke is likely from the turbo getting in the exhaust system, if ur plugs are clean and not fouled it will be another indicator its the turbo as its not even in the combustion chamber
does seem odd though all this after the timing belt issue you posted about....
can you get your hand in there to the inlet of the turbo easy enough or are they a twat ?

Steve it's a 205 buddy, I spent 3 hours removing the heat shield covers today aswell as all the elbow bolts and mani bolts, got to remove the down pipe mounts in the morning that should make the turbo unit lift straight out with the mani.
Scooby slayer,
I have replaced all plugs costing 80Ł for 4 and all leads, full service an cam belt and alt belt , replaced the Copland level sensor as he car was running with engine light on, sorted that now,
He turbo does spin freely and feels solid I spin her and remove my had n she still spinning ,

strange one then mate ? get that blower out in the morn and see how she looks, you will know straight away as there will be oil/water ingress in the back of the turbo.

Wait til you try and get the bracket that's impossible to see under the turbo unbolted !!
Think it's from the cat housing to the engine block.
Oil feed/drain isnt exactly easy either.
As said before, whoever designed those cars was a cunt !!!
From the description of smoke and no boost at all....I'd still be struggling to believe the turbo is at fault. Plus you say there is oil in the inlet of the turbo...ie from the breather system ?
Check plugs, do a compression test.

Dont think you do need to remove alternator. But do remove radiator etc....it helps massively.
Although it's been some 16 years or so since I worked at one.....16 years of bliss !!! lol

I put some rust breaker on it over night to free it up,
There is 1 bolt behind the alt for the mani which I gotta get off,
The japs must have small hands as everything is built on each other, not like a rs everything is straight forward,
Ill check plugs also pal,

You will need to access both side of the turbo as the compressor side may be fine and spinning freely but it may have a seized exhaust side and a snapped shaft
Also make sure you've checked the vacuum side of it properly as the pipes may seem fine but Italy not actually producing a vac
Also try and disconnect you cat/lambda and drive it like that as the cat may be bloked

Pipes can collapse inside as well.Do your boost pipes feel soft. When your trying to boost the pipes might be getting squashed flat assuming you haven't got hard pipes. This happened to me on my old Volvo T5.Also what about a cracked intercooler?

The pipes are softish buddy but not enough to collapse to the point of no flow!
Intercooler/chargecooler is mint buddy no dent or damage and is good for 450-500bhp as I been told n the car has only done 51k from new

Some actuators maybe all of them have seals in side them and they also where away as well.Causing loss of boost some actuators are a seal unit unit and some you can strip down.Im sure you could test them with a bike pump or some thing

Im not turbo god or anything but try the actuator first.Does it feel taught or slack? Is the waste gate stuck open or broken.Ive just read that the Gt4 has a boost control soloneid called a VSV.They are normaly 3 port or some times 2 port jobs black plastic may be metal if its after market. If you can find it try by passing it but don't rag the fuck out of it or it will over boost.Just see if it rises at all.

Just fired the engine up and when on idle the blades in the turbo barly are moving, I can stop them buy touching the bolt in the centre and when I stop the blades they don't spin back around' but I can spin them easy with my fingers,
Can't get the turbo mani off unless I remove the whole front end off, rad, oil cooler, alt and lots of othe jap crap

If you can get to it, check the wastegate actuator rod hasn't fallen off. It does happen from time to time. Failing that could be a split diaphragm inside the actuator or the turbo shaft has sheared.

It doesn't even get to neutral on the gauge, no play either, slight left n right if I'm honest, pain to get the turbo off bud!, how much would u expect to for a garage to replace turbo if I supply it,
Would it be worth geting it diagnosed on a rolling road 1st or def just replace turbo

Easier said than done. HORRIBLE cars.
But, what is slightly easier, and can be done as the turbo has been deemed scrap.
You could with some difficulty remove the turbocharger from the turbine housing in situ. There is a risk of damaging the turbine wheel blades, but as that part is screwed anyway, no big deal.
But due to the horrible design of the oil feed/return and waterways to the turbo, even this is not an easy task. But it may be easier than removing the entire turbo/manifold/cat as one. And it may then give you better access to remove the rest of the manifold etc afterwards.
As for stripping the front end. You can remove the turbo without taking off any of the parts you mentioned. But you'd be mad to try and do it without at least removing the radiator, although it is possible.
But Im 99.9% sure the alternator or any other bits do not need removal.
And this task is bad in a GT4....it's even worse in an MR2 !!!
