Default 2007 BMW 120D/118D. Any experience?

Hello, i've been looking at these over the last day or two, went to look at a 57 118D that has 61K and really liked it but it had a nasty clatter I suspect was duel mass so will look at some others.

Im thinking of looking at this one this afternoon.

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...ries?logcode=p

It seems to have really good economy considering the performace and seems a good all rounder.

The slightly older cars, pre 07 dont seem to be as good on fuel, is it a different engine?

Is there anything i should be looking for on one of these?
Ive never had anything to do with BMWs to be honest so dont really know much about them.

Any advice, feeback, 2ps worth appreciated.
Matt.

Dont take everything you read as gospel and I bet you haven't read about the millions of them that havent gone wrong across the world.

I used to work in a BMW main dealer and by far the better car is the 120 but would have to be the sport model. More torque and go a lot better. Plus interior is a better place to be and have better wheels bumpers etc. would actually consider 1 myself but just not big enough inside. It's all down to personal preference I suppose but wouldn't entertain a 118 IMO

I've got a 120d M Sport. Great car had no worries so far, touch wood. Oh apart from a seized brake caliper.

Timing chains seem to be the hot topic, but will millions sold world wide and reported cases being in tiny numbers I would guess you would just be unlucky to have it go.

Earlier models had a filter style oil breather which clogged up and wasn't often changed, the revised version 2006 onward i think had a revised design and so worth checking this as it causes turbos to become oil starved.

I had a 123d coupe and it was a nice car, but seemed it was a little to smart for it's own good and you forever had little sensors going off, resattable but a pain at time.

Full service history would be a big part in buying one.

Ive read that the cam chains cause some real issues.
I will consider a 3 series.
