Default 3dr spoiler problem

the spoiler seems to be coming away from the tailgate and is a bit loose at this point obviously the spoiler will have to come off but what can i do to sort it out?

i know the pics a bit blurred but you get the idea.

Im guessing it came with some sort of self adhesive pads to stick it down?! Would have thought u could still get them. Failing that you can get double sided side moudling tape which should be strong enough or failing that something like stikoflex or tigerseal (silicon glue) would deff hold it no probs but would likely fuck the paint if it needed to come off after for any reason!!

i just took the cap off and found that the screw was a little loose, i tightened it but it made no difference. There seems to be a bracket of some sort that the screw screws into, could this be damaged and does anyone know how this bracket is attached to the tailgate?

There should be a bracket that is riveted to the tailgate B4 the spoiler is fitted then you screw to this. You can just make out the bottom bracket in your pic.And the bottom hole of the 3 is just a self tapper through the tailgate. It looks like your bracket is missing altogether.

it looks like it but the screw under the top cap tightens up tight so the screw must be tightening to the bracket

The bracket is probably loose underneath the spoiler so you have 2 options! Remove the spoiler and re-fit the bracket with new rivets or 'no nails' it

Not really if someone has drilled the tailgate for a screw(Cos the bracket is missing). The tailgate is double skinned so could be tightening against the second skin rather than the spoiler if you get wot i mean.

Or as Spadge said the bracket may of come away from the tailgate so tightening the screw but to nothing.

Lol you might find the rivet has pulled through due to rust so just get a pop rivett set with a selection and keep the 'no nails' handy

it doesn't look rusty underneith (it is so far away from the tailgate that i can see there isn't ), do you know if you can still get the brackets from ford?

Not a chance
I'm sure it'll be ok though and the brackets are easy to make anyway

Whatever u do you want ideally to put a proper sealant there aswell, stops water getting in the rivet causing it to rust around it, common cause on most spoilers when their fitted without a sealant

dont use sealant because if water does manage to get in it wil sit under the spoiler and eventually rust the tailgate. apply cavity wax to the area under the spoiler which will protect it but wont hold water. the rivets are available from ford but tou either have no bracket there or it has pulled out and may require bigger diameter rivets.

bracket is either bent, or loose.

or riv-nuts have been pulled through.

all can be redone.
