Default Off to look at a Focus this afternoon...

Looking for a new run around to tie me over until next summer. Car in question is a year 2000 1.8 zetec manual. Car is on 150k miles. Cambelt was done 50k ago. Should I be worried at 150k on the zetec engine or are they good for it?

I know it normally goes down to how well it has been looked after, but in general what are they like? Car in question has 12 months MOT and 6 Tax and I think the guy will take £500 which I think is fair.

Cheers,

Gordy

Is it a mk 1.1/5 or a mk 2. The zetec engines are a good lump. For what it takes to get a timing belt done is it worth worrying about it.

They are good cars.

At that age look for;

Rust on the sills, although tricky as there are plastic covers on them. Look at the lower sill seam which is visible.

Look at the control blade bushes if you can, common mot fail. They are the rear suspension bushes nearest the front of the car.

Water ingress / damp in the front footwell, dodgy pollen filter seal, could be hiding rot.

Make sure the speedo works properly. Think the 1.8 petrol uses the IB5 box where the speed sender can be a sod to change.

Other than that just like you would on any other car.

Good cars ,I had a 1.8zetec model , I sold it with 143k on the clock and the engine and box were perfect ,it didn't use a drop of oil in between services .

I'd recommend changing the cam belt and aux belt while your doing the cambelt
