mk1 sierra xr4x4 not starting help pls!
Hi all,
Ive got a 2.8 mk1 xr4x4. It has been running before but has sat for the last months.
Ive tried to get it started again over the last week and its turning ok, fuel pump is working, fuel is getting to and past the filter, but it doesn't smell like its flooding which I would have expected because of how much ive turned it over.
If I spray easy start into the air intake it starts but obviously only for a second.
Thats why I thought it was fuel related. Its got new spark plugs, new leads, fresh oil and fuel filter.
Im confused as to what to do next, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks guys.
Ian

Slacken one of the fuel pipe unions on top of the metering unit and see if fuel comes out.
Sounds a bodge but sometimes the plunger gets stuck in the top of the metering unit, and just needs a tap with a blunt object on top to free it...

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I checked the metering unit doing as you said, its full to the top fuel. However I cracked off the unions that go into the head and they are dry, am I right thinking the fuel lines leading to the unions on the head should be full of petrol?
I find it hard to believe all 6 lines are blocked but fuel is not going from the metering unit to the end of the fuel pipes.
any help?
Many thanks

Sounds like the plunger is stuck. Or there isn't enough fuel pressure.
Can see the plunger in the centre, if this is stuck fuel can get into the metering unit but not out of the top.
