rs3100 gaa mk1 or zakspeed grp 5 mk3 capri replica
I am so torn between the 2.
I want to attempt to build a replica of one but I cant decide which one.
as a base car I prefer the mk1 no question, but once the kit is added I kinda prefer the zakspeed I think.....
I have found both kits available but im still looking into how good the actual fit will be and the finished artical.
the other factor is obviously a mk3 base car will be considerably cheaper.
here is some pics of actual replicas that ive found
mk3 zakspeed grp 5 replica
and mk1 rs3100 gaa replica
engine wise mk1 will be 3.0 and mk3 2.8i for starters.
I am slightly swayed towards the zakspeed whereas the missus likes the zakspeed but prefers the rear of the gaa.
that's where im at and cant decide..........

that's my thought aswell mate, ive seen some gaa reps but only the 1 zakspeed and although done to a higher standard than I will ever manage it wasn't completed and the rear end looked abit naff imo, but ive found someone in somerset whos had some moulds done and he even has the group 5 rear spoiler

this is true ive had a measure up though and a zakspeed is 3" narrower than my Chrysler so although a barge just about bareable lol
id quite like a cossie v6 thatd be 200 hp, plenty for an old capri, ive had a few and they don't handle the best lol
or a small v8 gotta be quite light though to keep it remotely capable of a small corner lol
a zetec turbo would be perfect and fitting for the car but im not going crazy on the ŁŁŁŁ, zakspeed is looking more and more likely at this stage
I need to find a solid chassis mk3 capri with tidy interior and 150 hp or more motor but needing a full respray, can be a right tat bag externally doesn't matter as itl all be redone anyway.
im hopeing a car like that will be 2k - 3k mark, then I can work from there.
will also need to find some huge wheels maybe 10j fronts and 12j rears and need to be deep deep dish aswell preferably similar to the proper wheels.

the car needs slamming aswell on the front end, also the front wings are wrong they should be slotted out where the lights are not squared of to the wing, that kit is Ł2000 and that doesn't include a bonnet or the rear spoiler which is another Ł1000 !
imo Ł3000 is like double what the kit should be its just flimsy fibreglass at the end of the day.
I will never make a rep to the quality of that picture ive put on here as the decals are perfect and meticulous bodywork/paintwork, but I do plan to make the dimensions more like the original.
the kit on that car is a cci kit I have found another I am enquireing about.
photobucket is down atm but I have some pics of proper grp 5 zakspeeds, the rear diffuser and spoiler also must be correct if I build one.

Personally for me it would have to be the Zakspeed, as buying the bits to make a close enough Broadspeed Capri Replica, would be horrendous money!!
And running gear wise for either of them...definately an RB26!! Not enough jap engined Fords!!

id like it as a nice road car all its interior still, maybe abit more than 150 hp but nothing silly, also the missus and my daughter will love it
especially with a v engine grumble from the pipes.

the more I think about it the more I think a cosworth v6 would be the way to go, 200 hp and then maybe a t3 if I feel it needs it and 260 hp tops job done.
I would like to keep the engine ford if possible.

I hear ya rb26 are the nuts no question, but I wouldn't fancy 400+ hp in a capri lol

Sr20 would be a good engine to use in a project like this , for a track car the mk3 would be good but that kit would be a nightmare on British roads having to run it very low , looks epic tho

Mk1 for me as the zakspeed replica kits are all out of proportion they not as big as the original and just don't look right, I'm sure if the original kit was 100% copied it wouldn't be road legal due to size, I read this when the kit was first re made by Capri club international.

the width of a genuine zakspeed grp 5 capri is 72" wide, my Chrysler ch360 is 75" wide lol.
it will be big just like driving a big yanky motor.
the cci kit is overpriced and some dimensions are wrong which ruin it, I am in talks with someone in the uk who has built the kit, im by no means building anything like an accurate replica but it must look right externally and look good even if that means changing it. the rear end of the cci kit honestly looks utter shit theres no other words for it, it needs the cut out in the rear valance and a massive spoiler to break up the slab look.

There's a fair point here - the Zakspeed has the potential to look far worse if it isn't pulled off properly, where as the GAA is a safer bet.
The Zakspeed doesn't sit anywhere near low enough, but then the original was spaceframed so I think you would be hard pushed to get that ride height.
Do the Zakspeed, but do a proper job of it

with the proper spoiler and the rear valance cut out with the low slung rear diffuser in, then slam it as low as it will go I reckon it would look pretty cool then, not bang on but close enough.
also the vents are fake which I think is a good idea as if the holes where there it will crack, but my plan would be to paint the base of the louvres black to give at least the effect it needs that there see through, and also it breaks the panels up and the boxyness.
how it will turn out who knows but I will do my best and enjoy doing it, and what an addition to my collection if I can pull it off

To be fair, that's what it's all about!
Have you thought about doing a BMW by the way? I came across this car the other day and fell in love with it, and I used to love Zakspeed Capris and Escorts. This actually used to race against Zakspeed cars and the owner is restoring it to race it again!

The CCi kit looks like a fibresports replica, reminds me of someone making an MG metro into a 6R4 rep... bad thing to do.
The GAA kit suits a Mk1 perfectly.

How about the zakspeed mk3 kit that's just a set of round arches, front spoiler and rear spoiler? The kit has just been re made and iv only seen one car with it fitted so far. It was used in a deferent group of racing not as extreme as the zakspeed turbo, I'm very tempted to use this kit on one of my capris. Iv tried uploading a picture but my photo bucket is playing up!

The cci kit was originally started by a company called crap conversions,( Capri race and performance) they managed to get hold of an original mild or drawing started to make a replica then went bust! Cci bought the remains and finished it off and this is what u can buy off them now, they probably cut a few corners to save money. Crap also did a good copy of the bonnet as I bought one for my Capri.

I do love them old bmws but im set firm on a capri mate.
if anyone else knows any other suppliers of zakspeed kits let me know.
I do have a good lead on a set, tbh ive only found one person that makes the rear spoiler and hes literally a one man band I think, kit looks good though if the fit and dimensions are good then I think were a go

well ive just put down a deposit on full zakspeed grp 5 kit with 4 piece aerofoil rear spoiler replica of the original
kit should be built mid January.
need to start the search for a mk3 car now, ideally I need to find a mint interiored, solid but shit bodywork car, if I can get one with suitable engine in aswell all the better.
