Always a grey area with a rally car, they get re shelled all the time, its how loads of genuine rs2000s, sports etc ended up, re shelled into base models and the like


Still a nice bit of kit regardless.

Absolutely, it wasn't a negative comment, I know the nutter car was bought back from SA and used in the uk in events but that car in the second set of pics was in that state when still in SA about 8 years ago, so hopefully there's one or two about

Hi all I would be very interested in a road spec rs1700t,a few of you will have seen some of my post before on the rs1700t,I am currently updating a thread on a south African forum called The escort club SA,I have put lots of info on but you have to join to be able to see the threads on the forum,I have tracked down nearly all the rs1700ts,but i am interested to see if your friends car is p9 as the suspicion I had was that it went out to Sa with the other cars,and was used to re shell p17 when it went from LHD to RHD,the lads in SA say it never came?leaves me chasing a couple of cars, clones or more cars?,any info or pictures on this road spec rs1700t would be fantastic,regards paul.

Ye hopefully there is one or 2 in existence, think the problem was ford didn't make them 4wd from the start (even though they were a few seconds of a mile quicker than the mk2 escort) when they were first made, it just wouldn't of been a rival for the audi on gravel/in the wet. Think it would of made an excellent car for club and national events mid so it is a great shame.

Im from the same area as sirrom and that garage that is now a co op I used to work for him in his bodyshop. Les sharpe was his name. Used to rally 3 door cossies years ago. Anyone know what happened to the 2nd blue road RS1700T. Seen photos of it with a mazda version of the zetec in but its had a bmw rear axle fitted.

This car p13 has been restored and has been reunited with all its genuine running gear,the guy who restored it likes his privacy and all the 17t fans who were asking about it have ruined any intrest he once had in the rs1700t,so has now sold it,rumor has it it could be malcom Wilson,malcom was in the market for another 17t for his colection and just missed out to Wayne who bought p18 for Brian betridge,malcom was on the same ferry coming back as Wayne,so it would make sense p13 is now in his colection,let's hope for the fans sake it is him as we know he likes to show off his cars.

Also remember issue 1 of ford heritage magazine in the early 90's featuring one in the uk, was complete and driving, road registered but rally spec.

There is a lot of history on the Sa thread but you need to join to see. Allegedly p10 was the LHD car that went to SA with P18 the RHD rally car,I have since found out p17 and p18 were the cars that went out to SA,when the rally cars came back to England they were both RHD,?
I am missing two cars?,were is p17 and where is the other RHD 17t.
The USA 17t is p10 here is a picture of it behind Boreham looks like p10 was the prototype for the Sa spec bodywork and cooling package it still has the standard fuel filler type same as Malcolm Wilson car p15,the Sa cars had the same type as the works spec Vauxhall HSR.
