It's usually a fault with the brake pressure sensor on the ABS/ESP unit but without knowing what fault codes are stored it's only a guess.

The hunting could be anything from an air leak to a faulty sensor/throttle body etc.

As all the systems are connected via can-bus an engine fault can register a fault in the ABS/ESP.

Need fault codes read in engine ECU and ABS/ESP.

Is the engine management light on too?

The car has some fault codes that a friend got for me but he does not know what they mean

P1260
P0230
U2023
P2281

I have replaced a air mass meter on advice but it's still doing it... Paid 9k for it 3 weeks ago and I haven't driven it yet

P1260 - Theft detected, can be a key/transponder issue.
P0230 Fault in fuel pump circuit http://engine-codes.com/p0230_ford.html
U2023 U codes are communication faults between modules and can be set if invalid data is recieved over the can-bus network
P2281 - Air Leak Between MAF and Throttle Body

P2281 -That will be the cause of the hunting, check all around the inlet for air leaks/leaking pipes/inlet manifold gasket etc.

There was a service message from Ford relative to U2023 on ST Focus

"If a customer complains about ESP light illuminating and DTC failure code U2023 is set the cause could be an insufficient tube
connection between the turbo charger and intercooler."

Again, the hunting and this code could mean a simple air leak/split hose/ connection on the intake system, somewhere.

The above codes I've found the info from online searches, if the proper Ford tool was used the descriptions would be known anyway.

Also, the ABS/ESP needs it's codes read.
