Default What tuning company

Hi all now I have resolved my running issues. I want to get the car tuned, ill be doing all the bits except the remapping myself so just want people's thoughts on what company to use. Car is a standard mk2 focus RS
I know of

Jamsport
J W Racing
Collins
Scc
Puma build

Who has had any experience with these and who would be best to use, none of these company's are close to me as I live in Sudbury Suffolk,

Devil Developments are getting good results with the Focus RS and ST at the minute.

SCC Performance is the place for these cars, Rob is a proper enthusiast and has taken his own Focus RS to silly levels.

I do beleve I've heard of Karlos g and as far as I'm aware he tunes cars via a laptop with some det cans, not really the sort of guy I'd want to tune my car. I'm pretty sure he's good with escort RS turbos and stuff like that tho.

That's the sort of tuning which is unique to the car and its modification, and its more about the tuners actual ability. Sounds like any of the people you have mentioned are more than competent of doing this, or they can even do the really high tec form of tuning called re-flashing. All the MK2 guys seems to be going this way, far better than having a chap mess about with a laptop and det cans lol

Seriously though the people you have mentioned are fine for what ever form of tuning you want. Might be worth giving MA-Developments a shout too as I know they have had some great results with the Volvo tuning scene

Out of interest, how should it be tuned?

A car should be tuned by somebody that firstly understands how they work, secondly a guy with a laptop a det cans that does it part time isn't the sort of guy I'd let tune my car as when it all goes horribly wrong who sorts it all out.
The tune is a case of developing software on cars like these that takes lots of development and time to test it all works not just raise the boost a fuel and hope for the best.

I would expect most of the tuners just to load a generic map unless there were a lot of hardware changes to warrant a custom tune.

I know they're expensive but the Mountune upgrades are brilliant.

I've driven a Mountune 260ps ST with the upgraded intercooler and it was a great package. When EVO mag had their long-termer Montuned ST tested it was about 285hp with monstrous torque.

dont measure somebody's ability by the fact he uses a laptop and det cans
what d'you think others use to live map?
if the person with the det cans and laptop(i dont know karlos g so cant comment)
if they know what they are doing it'll prob be the best the car will ever be
certainly better than a standard flash map
but you do have a point about if it were to go wrong what would happen then?
but then again if they know what they're doing then it wouldn't go wrong would it

I think people have blown this quote out of proportion, the op is not putting anyone down, he just wants his 20+k car to be done right, I've not followed the tuning scene for a while, has Karlos set up a tuning company now?
As said, when the bits are fitted it should only need a suitable map flashed into it and checking over. If I had another mk2 frs there's a few places I would debate taking it too, if it was a mainstream tuner I would be having a good look at SCC.

SCC actually adjust the map accordingly rather than bung a generic map on the car and if i still had my ST it was going there next for more upgrades

Hi all thanks for the replys, I have spoken to a phew now and must admit it will be a toss up between Collins and scc. Both give great advise.
I was however quite shocked that when I spoke to one company, they insisted I go for there 420bhp kit as it's the only one worth having, and is were they want to be tuned to. Know I'm not slating anyone but surely they should ask what I want from the setup before suggesting one.
Anyway I'll let you all know what I decide and get some pics and graphs up once it's done.

Jamsport seem to be doing good things with these cars at the moment. I've seen a few in Fast Ford that get a lot of praise from their owners, in fact there's one in this months edition.

It's about working with the customer and advising them what is the best options for their budget and future plans.

These cars use Bosch management, completely different from what Ford have used in the past as it's not originally Ford stuff. It's infinitely more complex than what has gone before to and from what I have seen, most of the traditional Ford tuners struggle with basic things like recalibrating for larger MAF's etc.

Oh dear

Whilst I understand what you're trying to say (and I see where you are coming from) you've said completely the wrong thing. I doubt Karlos will have the facility to map the stock ECU either
