Ok so Im thinking of doing the underside of my car this year, not to concorse just clean it up (preventative maintenance) im a bit daunted by the thought so I thought id ask on here for hits and tips

also id just be using axle stands so taller the better, what do you lads use?

and can you get white underseal?

I don't think it's that hard really mate just takes time and is a dirty job. Is there any welding that needs doing that you know of? And are you wanting to take the under seal off? Me and my brother have done my escort and his saff.

Been there done it dont think I could do it again takes ages and is proper messy,but not hard all you need is a wire wheel on a grinder job done

No welding that I know of.
im hoping to take it rite back to bare metal then prohaps galvanise then underseal over that.

Ive heard a hot scrapers good for removing the underseal, did you just use the angle grinder?

I also want to do all the running gear and new bushes

I used wire wheels on an electric drill, took forever and killed 3 drills

Having a spit makes it much easier though!

Just used a grinder and I had a wire wheel on a drill to get into the hard to reach parts , its alot quick with a grinder imo

I found mine was really easy.

I paid someone else to do it!! Lol!

Yeah we took it all off with wire wheel on a grinder. I did mine on my back and we got a spit for my brothers. We striped them to bear metal then zinc primed, seem sealed, zinc primed again, stone chipped, 2k primed it then paint. All the axles and hubs and things was sent to the powder coater's then it's just a case of new bushes, cv boots pipes and bearing, thinks like that but that's the good part putting all new parts on

Mine took ages, biggest mistake not having everything there to just bolt on, you need new bearings, pipes basically everything as you see one bit clean so you have to match it, I steam cleaned the underside to remove old wax, then wire wheel - belt sand every seem and around every hole then rust treat then what ever coat you desire, I went for black spray wax as black car but any other colour it would have been painted

Jesus that coving is good,better than my efforts in the bedroom I've just decorated and that's a bloody garage!!!!

Car is awesome too,some work gone into that.
