I can't say the name/number of it. All I know is it's the strongest steel.

No you don't shim ST170 springs, only stock springs... thats the point, it saves you changing springs.

No still look like new mate. They were under area six springs tho not 106 ones but can't see that making any difference. My two new builds both have devil's springs.

On a budget build there's no need for the devils kit but both my new builds are 500hp plus engines

so say on a budget build, would you say they'd cope to 250 mark? mines a pretty free flowing setup. Rover inlet and Area six exhaust manifold. im nt going the whole hog for this build. I'll be running Mega Squirts too, so ill have a decent amount of quality parts for when i eventually go for a decent budget build

you wouldn't have to go mad with the grade of steel. Most stem seal steel is relatively soft (including zetecs), lots of cars even have the springs sitting straight on the ally head without seat washers at all.

On a side note, what's the best size shim? Would there be any discrepancies between 2nm or 3mm shims?

So 3mm will be ok. Has anyone had problems at 3?

What would be needed to shim stock springs? Just out of curiosity

That's the stiffer 106 springs. I'd have thought it would have to be slightly more for stock?? Or run 2-3mm and be even more limited to boost than 106??

Only ran a bar when I used them so not really had much of a play, normally use ST springs which have been fine at 24psi.

I need to get the 170 springs. Don't suppose you've got a spare set going? It may even be easier just to go DD tbh.

I've always been told 2mm on the 106 springs as they are slightly shorter.
