its always a pain in the rear end, as most sellers out there live in cuckoo land and think every buyer is stupid, I'm off out this morning to look for a new daily driver too so my expectations are low that way things can only get better

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
Know the feeling, there's no consistency either. I was looking at mk3 mondeos at around 1k, there just doesn't seem to be any of the generally tidy cars around like there used to be. I wasn't expecting a mint example just something that was in a tidy all round condition. In the end found the st24 that while it had had some paint it was done well enough and the condition was head and shoulders above the mk3's i found.

look at them propperly,
specific designed engines, drivetrain, suspension bodypannels, doors, electrics etc
100% budget top class little motors
aye they have faults but if its got tyres or tits your on your back with it every weekend lol
looks a good one Glenn.
get rid of the rear splash gaurds, they stay wet and rot the arches from inside out

Looks just like my old one. Be careful with the tiny bit of bubbling, thats what mine was like when i got it but after 2 years it got far worse!
Also the standard brakes are shit. Bin them off and fit mk3 mondeo callipers and st170 front discs for an instant 300mm brake upgrade. They fit under those wheels but you have to grind a little bit off the top and bottom edges of the callipers. Oh and drill the hub holes out.
I tracked mine at rs combe shortly after, done 7 sessions and not once had any brake fade, and that was on the used pads that came with the callipers lol as they had loads of meat on
If you want to spend some cash fit a full piper exhaust system, made a massive difference to engine response on a previous puma we had.

Top info Fudgey.I fancied some bigger brakes.I seen a fitting guide on puma people.Im glad they will fit under these wheels too.The mondy calipers are cheap on ebay.I was thinking about fitting st170 front calipers cause they use the same pads as tranny connects so was wondering if the calipers from a tranny connect were the same as a st170.
I will be able to get free calipers you see
I was thinking about removing the rear inner arch sponges lol.

you can get the exact paint code off the slam panel.
if its a keeper for a while, get the arches looked at now before it becomes too expensive and a nasty MOT fail.
And then get chucking it round corners and be surprised how a well set up fwd car can run rings around a lot more expensive and supposedly capable machinery on tight twistys.

One is attached to a wheel mate, i guess £20 will cover postage?
one more thing, if you ever have the rear arches replaced, i think body shops tend to use a pug 206 front wing and cut the bits off that they need. same shape or something... as you cant get puma rear arches
so id get out there asap with some rust proofer mate

Oh and check the bushes at that mileage too. If the bushes are worn on the rear beam, it will have a wayward rear end on the limit. On a good condition 1.7 puma, you should be able to put the rear end where you want it with a bit of lift off oversteer. When the bushes go, its all skittish at the back end.

The original "normal" road review by top gear:
All that yet the retarded mongaloid british public still wrote it off as a hairdressers and girls car. Yet it runs rings round most the so called "manly" hot hatchs of the era let alone pissing over the rs turbos and the like available then.

Not Crazy, just Unwell
I bought the tool and have some bushes. It's easier to drop the whole axle and fit them than one side at a time. The tool was £50 off eBay and you'll get your money back on that if you ever sell it. Cheapest eBay bushes were £10 pair. I wouldn't trust them tho
