Default What does it mean when?

VW Golf PD engine, diesel turbo.

When driving along, if you let off the accelerator at any speed or any gear then touch the accelerator again you get a click from the gearbox area of the engine bay, it clicks as you let off, then clicks as you apply acceleration again, if you hold the gearstick firmly you feel it knock back/forth at the same time as the clicking noise?

Thanks chaps.

That clicking though seems to sound like gears clicking? Or could it be the shafts/cv joints clicking from movement?

It's more likely to be the cv making noise due to as said the bottom dogbone mount moving excessively, if the mounts ok 2 option would be bottom balljoint/wishbone
