VW Golf PD engine, diesel turbo.

When driving along, if you let off the accelerator at any speed or any gear then touch the accelerator again you get a click from the gearbox area of the engine bay, it clicks as you let off, then clicks as you apply acceleration again, if you hold the gearstick firmly you feel it knock back/forth at the same time as the clicking noise?
