Default VW Key Synchronising

Got a MK4 golf and the issue im having is basically the remote central locking doesnt work on the fob. The red LED flashes so the key is working but i cant seem to sync it to the car.

The other key the remote locking works on that but it wont start the car, this key is also bust on the plastic so of no use really other than as a spare.

How do i sync the remote to unlock/lock the car?

Its a 2001 model MK4.

Found loads of guides on the net, none of which have worked.

Thanks

If the 'net guides haven't worked, disconnect the battery for 1/2 hr, this re-sets the convenience module.

Check fuses too.

I'm sure it's the same as the passat, so in order to synchronise the key:

1. press the unlock button on the fob for one second
2. open the door manually with the same key

The car recognises the mechanical match and syncs it with the car.

The other key that unlocks the car might not have a transponder chip. You can get a virgin one from ebay but you will need someone with vagcom to pair all keys again at the same time.

Apologies for the thread highjack, but I've a related problem here with my 02 Passat.

Normally 2 keys I've got, when you unlock the car with the fob all doors unlock. For no reason I can think of, they both now only undo the driver's door. To get the rest to unlock I have to open the driver's door, then hit the main unlock button on the door card. A pain in the arse when you're wanting to just open the passenger door...

I've not Vagcom, or at least not got a working version

If you press the unlock button twice, it should open the rest of the car.

Beleive me, I've tried double pressing, triple pressing and quadruple pressing the damn thing! I've held the button down for 10 seconds, and longer in my frustration

It never used to do it, then one day just decided to do it.

I know a local garage good with the VAG stuff so may well have to pop down there for them to take a look at it.

My brothers golf, you have to press twice, my mums you press once. They are identical cars on the same year.

Wouldn't expect the locking function to change, it is configurable, but once it's set, it's set.

This chart shows the coding of the B5 Passat CCM which changes the locking functions etc - sadly you need a full version of vag-com/vcds to allow coding. Shareware/free versions don't allow coding.

https://sites.google.com/site/1810ma...a4-passat-b5-1

The module is under one of the front seats and can get water ingress too.

I have trouble with my celica key. I bought 5 spares and a couple of blanks to cut. I now need to reset the transponders to the car and master key. Toyota want £200 to do it.

No hijack intended btw

I'll take a look at that now, my free version of Vagcom that doesn't work, deffo won't do that stuff then!

Thanks for the link.

My old CCM drowned, the new one is mounted up under the glove box so I hope / pretty sure damp isn't an issue.

Thankfully it's not a massive problem, just annoying!

Won't help coding but to get your free version working (is it 409.1?) you may need to get some FTDI chip drivers for your cable. (blue usb cable?) http://www.ftdichip.com/FTDrivers.htm

Try downloading the free version of VCDS-lite from Ross-Tech too.

http://www.ross-tech.com/vcds-lite/download/ - need the download for '3rd party/dumb interfaces'

Something I've had with both our passats was that it just stopped locking.

Pulling the battery out of the remote, then pressing all the buttons and putting it back together worked on both of them.

Very odd, and a bit different, but worth a try.

I took it to one place and he said nowhere in sheffield will touch it other than toyota and Harold's locksmiths of sheffield. I've used them once before, took them a barrel and they made a key for it . Just hope their computer system will rewrite the spares to my master

Thanks GVK

Sorry for the hijack again

Where abouts in the north west are you, generally when vags dont code you need to clear the errors and delete previously programmed remotes, i can test yours and supply a spare or fix yours or point out the problem using vcds and some other tools
