My crusade to redeem Ford & BMW drivers is at an and I regularly stop, flash and let other road users out when I am not in a hurry and they are amazed! (some look genuinely confused)

Now I will be suspected of insurance fraud at best . This is not fair........

I dont trust people who flash anyway.

the highway code is dead clear on the issue, regardless of "popular belief" being that flashing is to let you out.

I wonder how insurance companies settle "flashing light" based crashes?? the highway code is black and white on the issue so insurance should in theory be the same, ie you pull out or across someone when you should give way and its your fault, regardless of them flashing lights.

or do they take a more grey view that "intent" is more important ie you thought he was letting you go so its a 50/50 fault because the guy flashing you should have thought you might confuse the signal.

No way man flashed you out and drove into you?

I had the original scam on me, a silver astra with enterprise sticker on didn't know where he was going stopped then sped up, then he stopped dead, I stopped in time and a mile up the road he tried it again

seems your pretty well screwed on this.

your waiting to pull out and they flash you, slowing right down to a stop, your going to pull out aren't you? Then they get back on the accelerator and drive into you.

seems like there nothing you can do to avoid it happening if your the unlucky one to get a scammer try it on !

Worse! He was in a tranny van, left lane. Flashes me to let me out, I crept out at less than 5mph and a kid in a merc scraped his left side down the front of my car! Now it cost me a Ł5er for an old escort headlight from the scrappy and a tin of paint to dust the bumper. Investigators came out assessed the my car looked at the damage which was none by now. They recorded the damage to his vehicle down to speeding! Now obviously I lost the case to the Highway Code! But turns out these two blokes were setting people up, trapping them with this scam and splitting the money! They used the same tranny van but different cars to do the damage! This was about 7 yrs ago now. They got caught in the end, but once ruled there's no going back lol! Never ever pull out of a giveaway when someone flashes you!

This is one area where i think an amercanism should be brought to the UK, in the US it would be classed as assault with a deadly weapon, after all 2 tons of car is quite a weapon

Apparently there's a new motoring scam called 'Flash for cash'.

It's not new, the police have been doing it for years.

I'm here all night.

I never flash anyone out, or suggest otherwise, as said above, this is not what the 'flashers' are for, and you would fail your driving test if you done so!

I let them make there own decision.

i get the old "slam the brakes on" trick quite often with being a waggon driver at night , easy target as always going be insured and cant stop 44 ton as quick as a hired fiesta

its got to the point that i can spot them before they try it just by the type of car / how many in it / if anybody else is about etc , i now cover the brake ready for it or just slow down and make it obvious ive sussed them , they normally piss off then

as for flashing me out then driving into me , there not much i can do when pulling 50 foot of truck out other than a look of " i WILL drive over you if you try " on my face !

quite right misplaced courtesy is one of the worst things to do on the road as it can easily cause accidents. as a biker you have to be very wary of anything like that.
