escos fuel level sender info needed

Can anyone tell me the resistance range on a escos fuel level sender?
Also should it be live or earth output to the gauge?

No idea on scaling, but almost every car the sender sends an earth signal to the gauge. ( resistive of course, not just a solid ground )
