Default Thank god for the ford fair for restoring my faith in the modified car scene!

As my title suggests my faith has been restored in the modified car scene!

I must admit i was dreading going to FF and being disappointed, its been a while since i've been to a big show because of the way things are going,,in our town modifying a car is putting the smallest widest wheels you can on and driving around on the bumpstops, whilst styling is usually grinding all the paint off the bonnet and putting as many stickers in the rear windows as possible!

Its good to see the ford boys are still leading the way in modifying!

So much so I've decided to pull my caged mk 4 escort shell out and restore it(hopefully for FF next year)

I will be starting a thread soon

yeah totally agree, ive havent been to a car show in ages and it was atleast 6 years ago i went to ford fair last. what a brilliant day, it seemed to be very well organised, track action was constant and some stunning cars. i took my 6 year old boy, this was his first car show and i thought he would be bored in minutes but he loved it, including the drive to and from looking out for other fords.

hats off to the organisers, they have also restored my faith in fords and modified cars too. roll on next year.

What a statement & not true im afraid the Ford modifying scene is way behind & is not really moving forward. Very few cars have pushed boundaries in the last 8 years its mainly stagnated.
You may like some of the cars but leading the way not a chance.

there was plenty of modified cars at this years show, some mechanical others body and design but the blue oval is still lacking behind plenty of other brands as Rod mentions but in a way I'm glad its that way or the blue oval will be lost into the max power scene all over again which I hated 1st time around, for me personally out of any of the fords shows so far this year and last Classic Ford was the best.

It is if that's all you know. And go tell yourself off for even thinking about disagreeing with Rod!! Who the hell do you think you are

To me, modifying is making the best all round package, looks, comfort, performance.

And in the "extreme" cases, just one of those things. Changing from standard is modifying.

Who else is doing what better?

That's a general question, not a statement.

Good question! No one. Everyone in every scene is doing the same!

Unless someone does something outrageous, then you get slagged off for trying to be different.

You can't push the boundaries! I wasn't a fan of the max power scene, but you have to accept that it did pave the way for certain ways of thinking and modifications nowadays. Fitting bits from other cars and alloys that suit the car etc etc.

Plus a lot of inspiration came from wrc!

Do you think the mk1 FRS would have Sparco everything, if it wasn't for these things??

That's a question not a statement!

Lool!

Yeah, purposefull mods, practical and tasteful. Exactly how it should be done, if that's the direction your going, obviously taste and vanity goes out the window other routes you take the car.

As for sound systems, I don't think there's anything wrong with them unless I can't hear my stereo over theirs! No need to be attracting attention to yourself. It's your car music etc, don't force your crap on me etc etc

Audis have the built in active subs. They sound good with the Bose system. But you don't get the Audi drivers banging shit out the windows! Unless there chavs or drug dealers lol.

It can be done, you just have to be that bit more mature minded to pull it off. IMO anyway

Nice way to try and kill a positive thread Rod.

I'm seeing lots of different Fords, with people trying new and exciting things all the time. The Cossie circles you move in are largely stagnant, but outside of that there is a huge amount going on in the rest of the Ford world, with developments pushing boundaries, new exciting cars being launched and a whole lot of good things happening.

There are Fords other than Cosworths Rod

The only thing that annoys me about the ford show scene is the mongs who are into silly "ICE" meaning i end up feeling sick when i walk near their car as the base shakes your insides apart. There really is NO point to that. Its hardly "quality" sound. Just high volume for high volumes sake.

Its annoying when youre sitting down to your lunch BBQ and all you can hear over the track action is the ground shaking and a pointless bass tone in the distance

It was a good show but was better 4/5/6 years ago when it was constant 500-750bhp cosworths ripping it about of the track, this used to give me goosebumps

Instead of 20 mk2 frs's, and 3 zetec s's and the rest filled with focus st's

In recent years the show cars are totally stunning but the track action is like ground hog day

It was a day of the cossie conversions, the mini cosworth was a nice surprise and I saw a hand fall of mk3/4 cosworth converted cars that were simple stunning

All in all it was a very well set up show with some of the best fords in the world..... I just would love to recapture the days of silly horse power cars tearing it around the circuit

Well done to the organisers

Here here Dan.

look in fast ford there are a some nice Fords in there with nice little mods.

Us ford lads like a clean well looked after car whereas the VW boys dont care. They love rust and the rough look.

Yeah I hear a lot of people say it's dying, but that just isn't the case. The RS scene is in decline due to the lack of new models and the cost of the old ones. The ST scene is thriving and growing all the time. If you have no badge loyalty, or are too young to be in the Cosworth generation, the choice between a 25 year old Sierra, or a five year old Focus that handles better, is more reliable and faster, then it's a no-brainer for most. The old cars just aren't great VFM anymore, as they're now classics.

As for leading the way, then perhaps not in some respects. People aren't necessarily taking up some of the new technologies (in the old cars at least), but that's not the end of the world. To be honest, I think the obsession with horsepower is the Ford scenes biggest problem, as it seems that some people still insist on looking down on people for having the wrong badge, the wrong engine, or not having 500+bhp.

I think it's about right. The old guard are still doing good things, the new cars are looking to the future, and the styling trends are generally pretty good, without all the silly wheels and cats eye scraping business that the VW clan seem to persist with.

Not too much to complain about in my book!

So, we appear to all be in agreement with Rod then?

Oh wait, we aren't.

Sorry Rod, but playing the same old song does get boring and I've covered more miles in my little fiesta than you ever will in your cos, and I guarantee Ive had far more fun with a 10th of the power

Hey!its great that i have got everybody talking but i think some of you have missed my point.

Its not about the badge on the car or whether or not you like loud music etc its about the quality of the cars/mods.

Call me old fashioned but i thought you modified a car to make it better?

The point i'm trying to make is a lot of the VAG cars etc are just out and out dangerous!

Like i said before locally to us there is a bigish Vag scene that thinks its ok to drive around in a standard car with a pallet strapped to the roof rusty bonnet and a pair of there mums knickers over the rear view mirror on the bumpstops with the biggest widest wheels scraping the arches to shit!not to mention the biggest stretch possible on the tyres(surley this should be illegal?)

Then they drive all over the country even over to europe to park up with other like minded people and call themselves show cars,THESE ARE NOT SHOW CARS!

I understand that the ford fair would fit inside the pit lane at silverstone if it was just balls out modified cars and that you need a nice mix of cars at a show but i do have a problem when people modify cars and make them worse!

Thoughts please?

I dont mind modern fords but the people who should get respect are the people who restore these old fords. Some of the panels for older fords are impossible to find so people fabricate there own which I think is amazing. Like I said I dont mind the modern fords but when I see them in mags or at shows they dont really interest me.

Give me a standard looking Ford RS any day over the VW/Seat etc mods I think the way they modify their cars is really stupid and de-values their cars so much they'd only be fit for the scrapyard once the owner has had 'its' fill of the car.

The Audi was done 'for a laugh' and to be fair to it is hardly indicative of the 'VAG scene'. It was built from a written off Audi IIRC and as a nutty car to have fun with at a show.

I've said this before, but I'm always surprised (and not a little disappointed) when car enthusiasts slag off other scenes. We do what we do with our cars because it's what we enjoy - the VAG boys do their thing because that's what THEY enjoy.

It's rather arrogant to think that our way is the right way. it's not, it's just our choice. We should allow others to choose theirs without judging!

I think some of the vws do look nice but some of them with the rusty bonnets looks shite.I really love hot rods and custom cars cause the builders put a lot of skill and some nice touches to these cars.

Some people dont like lowriders were as I would love a 1964 chevy impala lowrider.

This.

Judging people by what badge is on the front of their car, what wheels power the car, small capacity vs big capacity etc etc, just means you aren't a true petrol head.
Everything has its place, and everything has its plus points over one or the other.

Oh, LOL @ Rod, you realise there are other cars in the Ford scene other than a Cosworth?

Ford fair this year was the best ive been too .

Great cars and track action good .

I've had my saff Cossie for 14years so I'm biased to cosworths but the new ford ST looks great and there are some great cars on the scene , even some not to my liking but fair play to them as I feel the ford scene is on the up

the thing i love about ford fair is the amount of different types of fords from old classics, yank cars, ford powered cars, fords that people use daily and dont carry a flash badge such as RS,ST or COSWORTH, the big power cars and the newer cars.

for me it was great explaining to my son how all these cars are fords new and old.

from someone who owns a Leon cupra and a ford puma, i feel more 'welcomed' in the ford scene. my Leon is a little different to standard, nothing youd really notice but it really isnt of any interest in the vag scene as its not dragging its sump along the floor or have a vw badge.

i think what im trying to say is that i love the diversity ford fair brings.

on another note, does anyone know what the attendance figure was? id bet it was pretty huge for a one day show

Its not about slagging of other scenes its about common sense,if cars did'nt need suspension then they would of just welded straight bars instead of shockers?

Driving around on the bumpstops is not a good idea,,,but whats is even more crazy is when you say to "them" bet that handles like a piece of shit they say "no mate it handles like fuck!'Ummm???

They don't know a lot imo!
