it allows you to send pictures and use the com ports of the other pc thats it
if you want internet access and propper file sharing you will need wireless 802.11 or a cat 5 cross over cable between the pcs

It is possible to set up a bluetooth network, but they run slow about 700kbps, but I had one set up here between laptop, desktop and my phone but you need to have the personal area network/network access service available on all machines that you want to use it on.
What operating system are you using and what service pack?

The net faurly easy using a pda, you need to find out if your bluetooth devices support PAN (Personal Area Networking), if they do then I used the bluetooth connection wizard that came in the software I use, run through that and it will set up a network. You will need to go into your advanced config for your bluetooth and go to local services and network access, then make sure it is set to allow LAN access as opposed to PAN access, you should then be able to map drives etc etc, if you use a pda aswell you can do the same, if you have RESCO explorer then you can map drives there as well. If you need any software for the pda then pm me.

your pda uses activesync via bluetooth
the advantage of a pda is that when it thinks its "docked" or connected via activesync it uses its hosts connections rather than wireless ones.
thus you can use internet msn etc.
bluetooth was not designed to be used as a wireless networking protocol but a short range communications protocol.
it can be done but it is ball ache and will be as fast as a normal broadband line.
if you want to transfer any decent sized files it will be quicker to burn them to cd and then stick cd in other machine.

In answer too your question, yes you can use it.
I use it on my laptop for dial-up in a dire emergency (telnet access to networked kit).
The bluetooth itself isn't slow, the dial-up connection over my mobile is though, a full I repeat a FULL 9600 Bps

I agree with the above whilst you can do it, and I have had it working it is really not worth doing, hence why I have just moved to real wireless
