Is this thread only for RST's? I ran a 13.7 in my n/a mk4, I think I can bring this down slightly though as front tyres weren't great and my box is crunchy into 2nd

Why is it ERST seem to get poor 1/4 mile times? high 12s and low 13s people are doing with pretty much stock c25xe (2.5 V6)conversions into novas and running them times.

Its a genuine question, if there are any bits i can improve on my car while it is currently a work in progress then i dont mind investing abit more into it.

Thanks Glen

There was a lot of controversy about my Escort, and a lot of people getting the facts wrong, like where and when, and timing gear problems, other cars doing 9 second passes ect act
Ill hunt out the paperwork and give you the FACTS
RS 5tu …. there are a lot of little tricks and advantages you can gain to improve your times in a RST, Its not all about power, its about Traction

Was yours the white one by seven valley with tsw venoms? Still got the mag somewhere 11.9 was in real back in them days and its highly unlikely that the timing gear at Santa pod was wrong. Do u still have the car?

yeh traction is the key, even 200bhp in these and they just wheel spin that really what i would be looking to work on my plan is to run a MTX with a LSD just wondered if there was something more worth investing in to improve things.

Default The truth !!!

Give me a few hours to get all the details, but yes the white Escort that was sponsered by SVM was mine, the 11.9 was achieved at York drag strip on the 30th August 1998 and it was at the PERFORMANCE FORD shoot out, so Only FORDS ! so all these storys about santa pod and other cars running 9's is incorrect, also i heard that people were saying there were other cars including R'5 that got wrong times due to timing problems, again incorrect, it was Fords only for starters and there were NO problems with the timing gear on that day, and there were NO car's that had incorrect times.
NOW …. WHEN IT COMES TO THE JET CAR…….. IN ALL HONESTY IT DID HELP WITH MY TIME
It was doing a demo in the righthand lane, so spent several minutes doing the flames and edging forward, as soon as it had done its pass they waved me on to do my run, in the same lane, as i approached the line i went to do a burn out and it didn't spin at all… the jet car had heated the strip up so much that it felt like i had super slick drag tires on
I also had launch control (Armtech) so set the revs to 5k and it didn't even brake traction, my 60ft time dropped from my std 2.3 - 2.4 sec to 1.795 !!!!!! and that is how it then dropped my 1/8 from my std high 8's to 7.545 and carried on to 11.994 SECONDS !
Unfortunately my gearbox didn't appreciate the extra grip and I had to limp the car home, Shortly after i was out with my sister and was showing off and crashed :-( So that was the end of that, Ill upload some pics of the damaged car :-( luckily no one was hurt and i learnt my lesson and have calmed down, I was only 22 yrs old.
Hope this has finally cleared it all up and although I had a BIG advantage on the 11.9 sec run, it did actually do it and the timing gear was correct

By the end of our development with the 1.6 cvh we were running 127mph terminals but still around the 12.6 Qtr times as a road going car, because getting any more traction off the line seems very difficult with the ERST chassis and road tyres. There's no doubt that if we had built a dedicated drag car version, it would have run easily into the 11's, but then thats the problem with fwd cars, its very hard to have a fast qtr mile car that is fast round a circuit too!

So I think in summary once you have around 300bhp mid 12's are possible on road tyres, and increasing power after this, does little for the time, it simply pushes the terminal speed up.

Spot on KARL !
So as you can see, with the help of red hot track ( extreme traction) it is possible to get an 11.994 with about 300 whp

My second best time was a mid 12 at Santa pod a few weeks earlier to the 11.9, I'll scan it it once I've found it, I'm pretty sure it was about 2.0 60ft, mid 8's at the 1/8 th
Im looking for it now

We always ran aroun 2.0 - 2.1 60ft's to achieve the mid 12 runs, so in theory if we'd been able to get a 1.7 60ft a sub 12 is possible with 300bhp!!!

Regards the 11.99 run the problem will always be that if you only did it once it will ALWAYS be sceptical regardless of whether you did it or not! If you'd done it twice there'd be no doubt at all!

Here you are Karl, this is a scan of the timing slip from the 11.9 run and the other is from santapod 6 weeks before, mine is the G281, full reg was G281 DSF hope that helps back it up, funnily enough the car that beet me at the pod had similar times to my 11.9 that i did at York !

Hi Dave, I was only third party when i had the crash, so had to get it repaired and then sold it to pay for the repairs and things i hit, so i didn't have to claim against my insurance , the lad who bought it off me knew the full story about the crash and had seen the before/during and after pics, he just wanted it for the power and the fact it was in a few magazines. I heard from severnvally motorsport a year or so later that the new owner had taken it to "A LOCAL GARAGE" to have the fueling adjusted as he wasn't happy with the weekly tuning and poor fuel economy ..lol
It then blew up…. ( probably running too lean )

There is a few video's of my skylines on youtube, just put in "Nathan Scaddan", funny thing is i had the opposite problem to the Escort, I had plenty of power but NO traction,
i simply ran out of money to sort out the suspension and tires on the skylines, I must admit the Skylines were fun from a rolling start (motorway's) lol

Hi Nathan,

Sadly your santa pod timing slip is bogus!

looking at the 1/8th and qtr times of 8.22@86 and 12.30@107 it is impossible for your car to travel the last 1/8th in 4.08secs. (We've done literally hundreds of santa pod runs so I know what a car at these speed levels does each 1/8th in)

By calculation the last 1/8th should have taken around 4.7 seconds giving an actual qtr mile of around 12.8 - 12.9.

I think the picture of the timing slip has been doctored.
