Default Volvo v70 d5, what should I look for?

I'm going to see a 2004 d5 v70 estate tomorrow with my dad, the car looks in lovely condition with good spec and 78 k miles on clock. What should I look for on these? Also what job is it fitting a cambelt to these engines, cheers

Is it an auto?
Although the better option solenoids in the boxes can get a bit funny so I'd recommend a fluid replacement if you guys buy it. Future proofing really.

Check top engine mount, these tend to go meaning that inlet hose splits. Intercoolers on these also split so listen out for whooshing noises and oil around front grill.( New IC can be bought on eBay for £190 so not the end of the world.) The only other thing that may be a problem on that year is the instrument cluster.. Eco-friendly solder means they just give up completely with no warning.. Had mine re-done at the cost of about £120 iirc.

Other than that the 163bhp version of the D5 is a 500k unit
I've got two volvo D5 vehicles as my mate is a parts man at dealership.. One of mine is at 140k and awesome and the other is at 290k and purrs like a kitten. The box is starting to get a little tired on her though.

I'd check to see that average economy is between 39-47mpg on the average mpg indicator.. If below this then there's probably a split hose.

Good luck, hope that helps a bit

i do cambelts on these in about 25 mins, piece of piss.

PAS pumps fail
Autoboxes give issues (i dont get involved in these)
oil leaks
EGR valves (blank it!)

check lower arms for movement or tyre scrub or knocking

then just the usual stuff really mate

bulletproof motoring

I think he should be ok on EGR issues on a 2004- think it's the slightly later ones that suffer.
God, I've been listening to my mate too much

Also just remembered rear ARB bushes fall to bits and provide lots of 'clonks' from the rear of the car.. Bushes aren't available on their own though so you have to buy the whole ARB setup. Still, relatively inexpensive tbh
