Default Centrifugal supercharger - are they any good?

Just saw this video -

And thought it looks quite cool. Like a cross between a turbocharger in it's housing, and a supercharger in it's belt feed.

Are they better/worse than your typical screw/roots supercharger?

'Few years' is a bit of an understatement. Getting on for 100 years now, they're pretty much as old as a positive displacement blower.

Pro- Compact, more efficient especially at high boost (ie more power, less heat)
Con- Boost rises with rpm, so rather than instant full boost full torque like a positive displacement blower, these increase with rpm, making a more n/a like powerband.

The Con can actually be a Pro in a car like a big V8 with a shitload of power and not a shitload of grip, as it helps traction.

So they give more of a linear power curve; more like a non laggy turbo?

Nothing like it, because turbos dont have a linear power curve.

Nothing like a turbo, as turbos have the least linear power curve of any type of engine.

A normal supercharger feels more like a turbo with no lag.

Centrifugal chargers feel more like having a bigger engine, but one that revs just as high and hard as before.
