Default Who's got a Range Rover Sport?

Toying with getting a larger 4x4 for the autumn / winter time and top of my list is a Range Rover Sport. I will have a budget around the 15k/17k mark so 'may' be able to get a TDV8, however a TDV6 will be fine for me as i'm not buying it for performance!

I'm sure a few people own them on here, are the horror stories of them being notoriously unreliable true, or is it a case like any other car in that it all depends on the one you buy? Surely they can't all be that bad? Would I be better to get one with a few more miles (80-100k) that has full land rover history / things replaced already rather than find the lowest mileage one possible?

Also are there any extras I should consider as a 'must have' to help resale? I will be after a HSE spec so presume they all have the satnav etc.....

Anything else to look out for, I presume suspension pumps are prone on these like any other air suspension car?

I've looked into Q7's, Cayenne's, X5's etc and most opt for the RR?

Cheers

Yeah i've been looking on that site but sooo many mixed opinions.. Some are saying the TDV8 is just as thirsty as the supercharged and that they are more unreliable?!! God knows!!

I had one for 2 years, cracking big car, it was a TDV6, not very fast but very comfy
In the 2 years I replaced the battery, wheel bearing and suspension compressor, all of which are common things to go on them, I read loads of horror stories and heard people saying they were shit and not to buy one, either I was a lucky one or most of the stories are actually shite

This is my thing, I think you only hear about the 3% of bad ones on the internet. They seem sooo popular / common surely if they were shit people wouldnt own them?!

The TDV6's are more in budget, perhaps get the £400 remap done on one?

Realistically how juicy is it? I'm averaging around 23/24mpg in my 370z so imagine it will be similar?

Around town i was getting 21mpg and the most I saw on long runs was 29mpg, so not to bad for the size of the thing

Get the HSE which has all the toys

Hi had the big rr in supercharged model fro a while and loved it, was so refined and smooth to drive, used to get around 15mpg around town and 20ish on a run so when you take into account a tdv8 model will be 2-3k more than a petrol to initially buy and that petrol is cheaper by the litre then theres not a lot in it mpg wise. The supercharged models are always fully loaded to with rear entertainment etc and tend to be in better condition generally than the diesels as very rarely see a supercharged used off road etc. Most of the diesels around the 15k-17k mark have done getting on for 100k. If your doing under 10k miles a year personally id go for a supercharged everytime.

My missus sister had one for almost a year from new. Had several trips to teh dealer for work and just before being traded in for her Audi A5 started peeing oil all over the driveway. She's been put off for life with her experience

my old mans got a 07 tdv8 range rover sport and its been good really.
its done about 80k now and apart from an alternator and a couple of little electric issues its been good, its a lot better than I was expecting anyway.

they are a heavy beast though at I think 2.8 ton !

proper grunty though and sound nice for a derv.

I have no experience of them, but I would love to see what a 6.0 tdi Q7 is like.
