Default T5 is this f**ked

bought a t5 gearbox, took the sellers word that it was good then found these after cleaning it up.
I know its hard to see but there's cracks from oil filler to oil drain plug even through webbing

can you not take the top cover off and have a look at the inside of the area if it was cracked i would expect to see oil weeping out that area,i still think that is only casting marks

Try using a die grinder to clean up the area to see how bad the damage is, is there any other scuffs etc from I.e dropping, jacking

+1
If it were damaged it wouldn't crack like that
Just the usual out of view shit casing joints
Give it a good rub back to see but you cleaned it so you can see if it was covered in grime from years or if it had oil seeping out of it

was it a local buy?may of come out of a damaged car, being a welder i have repaired cracked block&gear castings etc in the past but if the oil is metallic looking then the bearings&gears have had a hard time in its past,so might be best of just getting a box re build by a know person then you will know you have a good servieable box,as most T5 boxes have have a more than hard life by now!
