Default INTERCOOLERS - FOR TECHIES

ok - my car is a 4wd dax rush road tool with only a 10" X 15" space for an intercooler, how do we fit a big enough cooler for the following spec :

yb, 7.2cr, greys, ported head, cams, t34 (maybe t38/t4 later!) 4x4 ex, 2wd inlet, looking for max possible bhp?

dosen't add up does it?.

so we need an air / water cooler with pre rad.

contacted 3 companies who make bespoke units:

www.paceproducts.co.uk / www.bellintercoolers.com / www.are.com.au

and decided on ARE. why? cos thier web site is a gold mine of info and they seem to know what they are on about. richard knows his stuff and was happy to discuss the finer points and make recommedations and so on.

the car will hopefully get mapped by Stu when its fitted and piccies and figures will follow... watch this space (3 weeks till delivery)

It's an interesting post, but I can't help thinking that you might be trying to sneak a free advert for ARE onto the site

Keep us updated on your progress though!!! Dax's are a lot of fun

Id just get a custom made cooler that takes all the space you have, and then run water injection too.

Fair play and no offence intended chap - it's nice to hear someone praising a company's work!

Looking forward to pics

You can get a 4x4 cooler in there with a few mods to it, I know I'm half way through fitting mine Running a standard t3 though

You reckon a t4 will fit? I've got less space than normal as I moved the engine so its central - I don;t really fancy having the turbo poking out the bonnet

the car currently has a mooded 4x4 intercooler. if you are very careful when fitting the end tanks on the 4x4 cooler you can actually fit it right at the front of the chassis to get more air.

i guess someone like stu / karl would be a better person to comment than me but i'm not sure that the 4x4 cooler will be any good over 350bhp even if it had full on air (which it cant get in the rush anyway) because the cross sectional area looks a bit restrictive.

the standard cossie 2wd and 4wd intercoolers are bar and plate design but the one i'm getting made is diiferent. it has specially designed extruded tubes to carry the water and the extrusions are separated with fins through which the charge air flows.
