Waiting on a court date I believe.

Really not sure how he thought he was going to get away with selling it in that condition, being a trader

My friend had a problem like that, bought a fiat and one day noticed the carpet in the foot well was wet, so he lifted the carpet up and found 15 broachers!! There was a hole in the car behind the dash and instead of fixing it they just put the broachers in under the carpet to absorb the water that leaked in.

Foul play with the mot for sure and they applied the underseal so knew how bad the underside was, yet was happy to take the same amount of money off the poor sod that a near concours example is worth.

None of that should be accepted ever.

Before people come and say there are 2 sides to every story.

The bloke paid 8k for a sack of shit in good faith from a well known rs dealer, who saw a newbie non enthusiast coming, there is no excuse or any other understandable side of the story.

Cars heavily corroded and worth Ł1500 max.

Dispicable.

Ye for 8k it should be concourse, that was worth no where near what they were asking, even before he discovered the rot.

I scrapped a shell the other week with less rust than that

Jesus, that is dodgy back street motor trade tricks, but then to ask top money!! Silly of the trader not to take it back, can only think that the guy proceeding with inspection etc whilst that offer was on the table has got the traders back up.

Personally thought if I was spending 8k on an S2 I would be checking every inch or getting someone to do it for me, and that back box was a red flag from the off!!

That's what I thought....

Ron Hodgeson doesn't sell crap cars, you only have to look at his website and his very own RS200.

I can understand he's payed top wack for a RS Turbo but it is 20+ years old.

Not good! but 8k ffs you could have a concourse one for that kind of money, that mint saff was only 8k and you could eat your dinner of the underside.
Anyway I hope he gets it sorted

That's ridiculous. You should really expect a mint car for that money, and I mean MINT! I'd just have taken it back and not left them alone til I'd been given all my money back.

You really do need to be careful, price doesn't reflect condition, if you're not confident about checking one over get someone else who knows a bit more to do it, or pay for a full inspection. Although you shouldn't have to do that at a big dealer!

I've not looked at the link yet, going to look in a minute but surely 'buyer beware' is the case when buying anything of value.

I could ask Ł50k for my POS truck. If someone is stupid enough to pay it without a professional trust worthy mechanic checking it, that's their problem, no?

A seller can't be held responsible for a buyers gullibility - unless the seller can be proven to have known it's unsafe - and how do you prove that?

I think when you're buying from a dealer and spending that sort of money you have a right to expect better than that, although you do need to be very careful when checking them, as with any car, but especially something this old. But they obviously knew what they were selling. If you've been buying and selling cars for a long time you know a good one from a lemon.

Hope the OTTO RS Turbo S2 I've just ordered is better than this. I did buy it sight unseen!

from the pics i wouldn't say that its rotten, or "that could kill somebody"
but it does require some repair, and its not "free from corrosion" or mint in any way
its a perfectly saveable car, but thats where the problem lies
it was sold(by a trader) as a clean mint car, IT IS NOT
if it had been a private sale then the buyer wouldn't have a leg to stand on as its buyer beware
but as it was sold by a trader then its not as advertised
the mot station will get their balls kicked by vosa for that as well
the car aint that bad realy but it aint worth anything close to the Ł8k
i wouldn't be happy if i had paid half that
i hope the buyer gets a result as it does look like the seller has done him over

Most 20 plus year old fords will have surface rust underneath ,that is bad and has been covered up for sure

BUT

If I was handing over 8k for a 20 year old rs turbo Id want it in the air so I could see what it was like . Sorry but the guy had his blinkers shut. And the top half of the car has been painted , door is a slightly off colour too. Id of ran a mile

This reminds me of when I first got my 4x4 saph! Wax oil covered all the cowboy repairs using fibre glass tho the bottom of my car.. Lots of welding later and it was repaired to a standard that was road worthy.
I feel his pain, apart from his will cost him a fortune

Anyone who pays Ł8k for a rusty RS turbo maybe needs their head examined ?
they are shonky old rust buckets and were lousy to drive Even when they were new let alone 25 years later.

Get your money back and buy a decent car with it, not an old shitbox mk4 escort.

Some people actually like their RS Turbos. Me for one, it's an old car and I've had some great laughs in it and have no intention of getting shot. It's a fun toy.

Thick underseal even on the back of the rear drums and the word "mint" in the advert would have put me off straight away. Also 8k you would expect to be able to see your face on the underside.

However I do feel for the guy and I hope the dealer gets what he deserves.

really bad to hear this, would another way of sorting it not to be getting the dealer to have all the bad bits repaired? eg rear arms/bushes and welding thats required?

Shocking story and hopefully he gets his money back! just another garage driving up prices of cars that arent worth the money imo.
