Default High torque YB starter motors

I'm converting my Sierra back to 2wd and need a starter motor, I was just going buy a standard part but whilst mooching on egay I noticed that a high torque more modern aftermarket version is available, anyone know anything about them and the origin of the part?? I don't mind buying one but they appear to be a Diesel starter with an adaptor bolted in place which isn't a problem other than I have loads of identical looking starters that were OE on Rover L series diesels!

Diesel starter motors are high torque as they have to overcome the resistance created by a high compression engine! The thing that really makes the difference is a over specified battery.

Even if you have an improved starter motor you need a high spec battery to drive it!

In the winter when it is cold, the oil is thick, clearances are tighter, a good battery make ALL the difference. my daily is a 3 litre diesel and the new high spec battery makes such a difference! starts in half the time!

I would like to say yes , but the engine was a long time with out being cranked over as it went for a rebuild and so on , so I couldn't say 100%
But that said from what I can remember of it I would say yes it is better .
Hope this is of a help to you

Oooh that's interesting! Is that the same engine as a 2006 2.0 Transit I wonder?? I have one of those engines sitting there as a spare for my own Transit and it does have a starter motor too.

Martin,

It has to be a Connect starter (1.8 litre diesel. 3 bolt fixing). They're designed for high torque to turn over a high compression diesel so spin over our low compression etrol engines with ease. They are a direct replacement bar maybe a terminal change on the exciter wire for the solenoid. These are all I fit on CVH's and Cossies now.

Correct. You can buy a -20 degrees starter from Ford but they're about £220! Doesn't matter if it's a TDDI or TDCI starter. They're both the same.

This is one...

no, 4x4 starter is differant to a rwd starter, and unfortunately a bit harder to get hold off
