I simply asked Guy to explain this to me, and got this in reply
I percifically asked what would be the best oil

ANSWER

Your RST should take around 3.5 to 4.0 liters, so 1 x 5 Pro S 10w-50 liter delivered anywhere in the mainland UK £37.05 or 2 x 5 liter £70.25.

If you wish to order please call me on 01209 215164 office hours.

QUESTION

it might be good, but at double the price of me castrol, and how long before I need an oil change

ANSWER

Ok, no problem.

This oil is in a different league to the Castrol, and the Pro S does not need to be changed until 6000 to 9000 miles.

QUESTION

explain please, thought us having shonky CVH's needed oil changing at LEAST every 3000 miles or so??

am i mis-understood?

ANSWER

It works like this, petrolium based oil (Mineral multigrade, Semi synthetics and most full synthetics) have different size molecules in their base stocks, the smaller of the molecules get burned off quickly causing the oil to thin down, in addition depending on the quality of the addatives used they get used up quite quick hence the 3000 mile oil change. With a true synthetic where it uses no petrolium base stocks, made in a lab with all the molecules of uniform size (imagine empty egg boxes stacked on top of each other, then try and shear them apart - thats a true synthetic) if it was not for the addative deplition, these are the detergents and the VI improver being used up you would never have to change the oil, because the Silkolene uses top quality addative and base stocks it can go upto around 6000 to 9000 miles in RST, with other more modern cars it can go 12,000 miles +.

Hope this makes sense.

Cheers
