Default Vectra SRi 2007 Poor fuel consumption

Picked up a cheap 1 owner Vectra SRi on a 57 reg the other day. Only done 64,000 miles its immaculate with full vauxhall history, its like a brand new car inside and out. Only issue is the fuel consumption. its got the 1.8 16v engine and whether im round town, A/B roads, motorway I cant seem to squeeze more than 35mpg out of it. I put £20 in just after the light came on and it said 120 miles on the range. I drove 5 miles home and the range dropped to 83 miles I since then managed 53 miles and the light is on gain. Seems to be doing around 60 - 70 miles to £20 seems a bit thirsty I know its a big car but thats not taking it past 4000 revs either? Any ideas ?

Must be something a miss there mate. I used to put £20 in my Focus RS and that would do 70 miles.

Z18xer vectra's aren't the best on the fuel tbh. The trip computer is never 100% accurate. The tsb to re calibrate it is to fill it to the brim and then run it to 0 range twice. But in fairness it still doesn't change much.

35mpg probably sounds about right for a petrol vectra. What I'd so is fill the tank, reset the trip, then when it's nearly empty fill it again and note down how many litres goes in and the mileage you have covered on the tank. You can work out your overall mpg from there.

Thanks people. The only thing ive noticed with it that seems odd but may seem normal is the temp guage. If your driving it pretty much sits at the bottom of the guage (as if the car was turned off) sit in traffic for 5 minutes and it steadily climbs to the 90 mark where soon after the fans kick in, drive off again and within a few miles it back to the start of the temp guage. Ill try brimming it but guess that won't be cheap in a Vectra lol

Had one, they are like that normally from memory, mines drank a bit also.

Get the temp gauge checked though, mine sat at a steady half mark all the time when warm, may be causing it to run a bit rich.

as above, get stat changed and should improve things quite a bit.
when too cool the ecu puts extra fuel in to help it warm up and run better.
i had a crap stat on my 330 and economy was around 15mpg when being a hooligan, sorted the stat and gained 4mpg on that alone, driving sensible sorted the rest along with a remap though.
