Default Family car confusion?

Im looking to punt my mitsi shogun sport next year and upgrade to something else and im stuck on what to get! I have 2 kids and we are planning for more so im needing something with 7 seats, diesel and around the 20k mark! I love the look of land rover defender 110 but unsure if this would be ok for everyday driving! Ive looked at range rover sports but ive heard they are unreliable? I like the look of an x5 but im wondering what peoples opinions are or what you currently have? cheers

I bought one a few years back when we had family over for a month worked a treat muche cheaper than hire car!

We bought an X5 in January and its not a bad car, build quality it typical German and everything still works. My biggest problem with it is I see too many of them on the road which kind of takes the shine off.

We had a Range Rover prior to that..... Never again

Have you considered a late Porsche cayenne? Allegedly a lot of the problems associated with the early models have been dealt with and they appear to be very good value for money at the moment.

When i first got my shogun nobody really had one in my town which was brilliant but now the prices have went down people have snapped them up! dont get me wrong the shogun has been fantastic and i would consider a newer style one but something is telling me to get a defender 110 lol

X5diesel are supposed to be good on fuel and build quality. Mate had a range rover sport and had nothing but problems with huge running costs. From what I hear steer clear of any land rover product

West Sussex RPU had a new land rover disco delivered last year and it was only in service for 2 days before it went wrong and was away for 4 days.
It has since had a fair few issues that could be put down to the way it's driven but the bmw's and mondeo's don't go wrong nearly half as much given the same treatment.
It would be interesting to know how many parts a landy 110 shares with its toffee nosed brothers and sisters before making a purchase

Good point mate! i know the newer style of defenders have the 2.4 ford engine from the kuga and transit! my dads mate owns a 4x4 garage and he carries out all my mots, servicing etc so il maybe ask him more questions! i did ask him last year if a defender would be better than my mitsi and his reply was yes defo!

We had a galaxy for a few years, good car but that was replaced with a discovery 3, the only real issue we have had with it was the handbrake seizing on one side, after beating the disc/drum off it looked like it was caused by either the hold down clip coming off or more than likely a bit of shoe material breaking off.

Right so far ive ruled out the following due to poor reviews, reliability and the way they look
range rover
range rover sport
freelander
navara
discovery
defender
q7
touareg

Im looking at a 2008 x5 that looks quite nice and i like the newer style shoguns as well! 2010 shape!

We've had an S-max for the last 4 years, absolutely faultless.

5 proper full time seats and a MASSIVE boot with 2 more seats if you need them, nice to drive and cheap to run.
