Default MK Motorsport (Grimsby) - Beware...

About 8 months ago (based on a Ford enthusiasts recommendation) I rang up MK Motorsport (in Grimsby) to get some uprights machined for my VX220 (project thread). They gave me a quote on the phone and after swapping a few emails I decided to go ahead and let them reverse engineer a pair of front uprights (which I duely bought at my expense) and then posted to them. At this point they quite reasonably asked for £450 from me to do the job and I sent them the money by BACS (fully traceable thankfully).

After waiting approx. 4 weeks, I gave them a several rings to see what was happening, and was assured they were about to start the job. After approx. 8 weeks (approaching Xmas) I had rung them around 11 times and emailed them multiple times with little response, but was assured that they would definitely do the job in the gap between Xmas and New Year.

I rang in the New Year, and guess what, still no progress. Anyway, this process repeated and repeated, until I got scared and really though they were going to fail to deliver and keep my money.

By late January, I approached a solicitor with the recorded phone calls and emails that I had from them. I was advised to try and give them a couple more rings which I duely did, advising them of my intent to prosecute by small claims court . By now I must have rung them something like 20 to 25 times (this is no exaduration), but only got hold of Mark (the owner) maybe 9 times as he was regularily "unavailable".

Finally, in February (some 5 months after initial contact) and after hugely heated discussions on the phone with his son, I got my money and hub back (minus postage at my expense!).

In short they were an absolutely awful company to deal with, terrible communication, deliberately avoiding phone calls, and doing their best to wriggle out of doing the job and pay me back.

I am a reasonable man and in my 46 years on this planet have never never ever had such unprofessional and terrible service in all my years. Please be very very wary if you ever send them money before receiving goods.

Sincerely,

Neville Contractor.

NOT shocked by this.

Mark's clearly a talented individual, his work from photos seen on various build threads on here is amazing.

He comes over as excessively busy (a victim of his own success), and seems to take on more than he can manage.

When I see pics of the work he's done on one of the guy's full car conversions the level of skill, tidiness and attention to detail seem exceptional. I'd have him work on any of my cars no problem. I just wouldn't expect a fast turn around or perfect customer service

Sorry to hear about your problems, time to look for someone else. Shame as I expect the work itself is right up Mark's street, and not something you can just go anywhere to get done

Been on the end of it, and it's not nice at all mate. Good luck with the project, I do hope that this hasn't ruined your enthusiasm, and you can complete the car

Fair play to Mark for coming on here and holding his hands up to the mistake and at least you got your money back

one off parts are a complete nighmare imo ... as for still wanting to do the job at a price he quoted when he was loosing out is what id call great customer service ,
ive got some of marks work hear and imo believe it to be better then some big branded names i could mention,
i would still use MK motorsport withought hesitation .

agreed mark does want to please everybody and help then so taking on more then he can handle is his only downfall , but i would not sat thats a bad thing..

everybody makes mistakes, anybody who says that dont is a liar and that is it !

its how these issues are dealt with that makes a company so it seems that mk motorsport deal with there problems and dont run away and hide.
thats all anyone can ask

its just taken me 5 weeks to get a manifold back from refaceing (not from mk) when it was quoted as 4 days but they are very busy and it turned out alot harder than they anticipated.
and decent machinist are there to do whatever they can to try and make what you want even when its a nightmare.

in my view all this thread proves is that mk motorsport like any honest tuner/machinist will have problems here and there and they obviously deal with them so fair play

ps i have no affiliation with mk motorsport im just giving my opinion of the evidence submitted

hi all
i would just like to say sometimes i deserve this ,i understand what its like to be waiting for parts aswell it has happened to me on a few ocassions ,i do take on more than i should , but i have to take on lots of work for the price i charge mayby i should double my prices and half my work lol,but all of us cosworth tuners and fabrictors that do work for you we will make mistakes and i for one am very sorry to people i have let down but rest assured none of you will ever lose money you have paid me ,and when these comments are made there are always 2 sides to the story and sometimes things dont happen as first said but i hold my hands up i was late doing the parts but how many phone calls lol

thanks for listening

Fair play to Mark for coming on and apologising, after all he's only human and we all make mistakes fr time to time.

Bit unfair to put this post up if Mark refunded you 3/4 months ago.

dealing with me funny that

thses are the new ones that you could have had in january rod ,they have the clearance for stroker cranks etc ,your quite welcome to have one if it helps your build

anyone who runs their own business will understand that sometimes with best intentions mistakes are made. i work for my self and sometimes mess up. but what i always think seperates the good from the bad is how you deal with mistakes and put them right.
iv seen mk work on here and it appears to be some of the best iv seen but i also appreciate the op situation too. for mk to admit a bit of a mess around is the best way rather than someone who lies they way out of it. well done for that. id give the op a call tomorow if it was my company with a full apology and settle any frustrations. dealing with issues in this way will always help not hinder your reputation.

i run my own business, if i am in the rong, i say so, and i would give an apology, as you say as its only right to try and make a mens , but if a customer was rude to me i would also in the same had tell him to go fuck his self and to shove his money up his hole , not every customer is right . there is two sides to every story .

thanks steven

From my small experience, you can't have everybody pleased at all times,no matter how good your intentions are

Besides that, I find it somewhat weird that this surfaces so long after...

You need a secretary mark! Also if you need an apprentice you can teach me anytime lol

I might be wrong but I have never seen a trader completely admit their mistakes without any excuses?it obviously doesn't sort everything out but I believe mark is fully prepared to rectify any problems and its impossible not to have problems with the type of fab work mark does.

I have bought a lot of parts from mark and I can't lie I have waited longer than I expected but I will use him again as I'm impressed with his quality of work.

Maybe more realistic turnaround times is the key mark??

P.s. I will be in touch again soon mark

All I have to say, if you want work to that quality. You must pay over the knock and be prepared to wait. It seems the OP didn't do either. MK Motorsport is the elite.

No brown tonguing, I'm also a mechanical engineer with thousands of hours of lathe, milling and CNc experience and marks work just makes me sick with his quality

Mark maybe that is the problem. You should start classing yourself as the best. Your quality of work is that good.

Maybe rod and his cronies will say different. Maybe for me saying this I may get banned like Cochyn .

You got skills amigo. Don't let the rs(and now vauxhall) massive bring you down
