Default rusty coloured coolant

What can you use to flush the cooling system out to stop the coolant going rusty? Cooling system has been flushed with water several times but after a while the goes rusty again.

It's the coolant that normally turns the water rusty

Take the rad off and shake out the rusty shit
It collects and can take ages to get it all out
But once everything is as clear as possible make sure the coolant is strong as its got rust inhibitors in

depends on the car, if the engine has a steel block then it will always form a little rust in the coolant

get an engine will an ally block, replace all cooling components and your done

I've put dish washer tabs in the header tank to clean out the cooling system before

Loads of shit came out after a few repeated goes

Using anti freeze in the cooling system (pinto engine so iron block), will try flushing a bit more then new coolant/anti freeze.

Always do this, washing powder does a great trick especially if its had a head gasket gone and your flushing it

If you can, take the rad hoses off and flush the rad with a hose pipe in the oposite direction to the way it flows. That can loosen up alot of crap that just gets layed down with the water flow and flushing it the other way can sometimes break it up and get it out..

2p..

I run a pinto in our track car and it doesn't help the fact the head is cast iron as well, mine was fully cleaned on the build then brand new pipes, coolant etc and I left it sitting for 3 months and when I started it the coolant was well brown, so flushed it through with new coolant but no doubt it will just happen again.

On mine it turned out to be the radiator.....

Flushed mine out with a garden hose whilst running engine, then filled up and drained, topeed up with pink coolant and it was perfect pink for 2 year before I stripped it for rebuild
