Default What to get?

Right my frs is safely tucked up in the garage but after 5 years I am getting the itch, the focus is a superb car but values are dropping and I feel if I keep it and invest more cash it'll still be the same car andi get bored, although I never get bored of looking at it!

If I sold the frs and with some savings I'd have about 12k to play with. The following criteria apply:

Weekend car, will live in garage.
Car for track and sunny days, considering a convertible
Tuneable and fast, similar to 300bhp frs

I have discounted the following:
Elise, my friend has one and its too small and basic IMO
911, great cars, but you always look a tool in one.......
No more cossies.....maybe

Top contenders:
Boxster s - good value
S2000 reliable sports car
Mk2 frs - to see what all the fuss is about
Rs4/m3 convertible- might make a nice weekend car

Opinions please

rs4, you would get one cheap, can take stuff in the back, quite reliable cars

remap takes them between 440 and just over 500 bhp with an ic,exhaust and can get anti lag, launch control, flat foot shifting etc

Im in a similar boat myself, just sold a big power mk1 frs and on the hunt for something new. Ive been to look at a 3 door and a saff that were just overpriced rubbish so considering other options now even though i do ideally fancy another cossie. Been looking at e39 m5's, evo 8's and phase 2 clio v6's.

Been looking at these a lot, have seen a few ford owners buy them and go back to a ford. I have an e39 daily and it's a cracking car, but unsure if the m3 is exciting enough??

To me they are. Too many tossers shoot them down because they don't like BMW and think they are for cocks.

I own 2 and a half E46 M3's right now

Classy, comfortable, quick, cool, rwd, economical enough. Everything a cossie isnt bar fast/rwd.

I love my e39 and the build quality is spot on. Might keep my eye.s open for a nice one. There are hundreds on eBay, would take a while to find a gem

It's not impossible though. I recently went halfers with a friend on a 55 plate, estoril blue, smg, 50k mile, 1 owner, csl reps, fully loaded with black leather car for £10,800 which I think is good value.

It's for resale in Oz hence the halfers and hence the choice of SMG.

Both of my others are manual. The first will be sold in Oz when it lands in a few days.

Chop,

Do you not have to have owned it in your own name in the UK for at least a year to avoid paying the duty when you sell it?

Rory - you're welcome to have a drive of my E46 M3 convertible in a couple of weeks.....

That's a lot of car or the money!

Been looking at smgs but worried he gearbox might be sluggish, and a manual might be better for track abuse and reliability.

Seems a lot suffer from rusty arches, similar to the focus, but they can be had for 6k up now!

Agree about the Porsche comment, even though I like them, but you can't say that about a 911 then consider a Boxster!!!

E39 M5 or an escos, that's what you want
