either put a x over cable between both (this way desktop has to be on for laptop to work

or

buy and hub to fit in cable modem ( i can supply free modem to you ) ( also this way either can connect ot net at any time.

wireless would be about 50quid i think

Gareth pay a bit extra and get Wireless mate as its a god send!! plus if u can take u laptop out u might be able to connect to other networks

My wireless network in though house didnt cost much (cheers Ranjs mate) , think i just got a network gate or somthing. ie wireless port that connects to my computer so when my computer is connected to the net i can also use my laptop on wireless on the net too

Gareth it doesnt cost much!!! wireless card from Ebuyer at about £20 (i need this for uni etc) and then get a hub for computer, they go cheap than you think if u dont want a full blown router. I will have a look in a bit at the thing i got. Do a search on the net and see how much they go for mate on cheap £. Awsome though as u can be anywhere aorund the house without wires lol
