Default 1.8 TDCI Focus

Are they any good? Seen a lot of reviews about the 1.6 TDCI being a poor pug engine and to steer clear.

Is there any common faults on the 1.8?

Thanks

1.6 has the dpf filter which i suppose you should only buy if you was doing proper motorway miles everyday, its the folk that buy dpf filtered diesels that kick about the doors that are getting the troubles.

1.8 doesnt have dpf so will deffo be better

The 1.8 is definitely the better engine of the 2, i've seen 1.6's die at 40k, and at the other end of the scale i know of multiple 1.8 tdci focus taxis on 250k upwards, ones just ticked over 300k.

I know where i'd put my money anyway!

What sort of mpg do you see from it mate? My 1600 petrol returns 35-36mpg on average on its trip computer thing.

Was looking a focus or mondeo diesel for our next daily car. Test drove a 1.6 focus the other day. Nice car, but was completly gutless.... Would of been quicker to walk!
