Default volvo xc90 d5 any good?

we are thinking of selling the 520bm as the wife does a lot of driving and in the winter the bm is shockingly bad lol

so i was thinking about the xc90 jeep with the 2.4 diesel engine .i drove one before and thought it was superb tbh but i was wondering is their any horror stories with these.

everyone says they are pretty good on diesel, has anyone on here lived with one that could put me straight on these please

thanks in advance

superb motor, the best car I have even had,we had ours for over 5 years and apart from service costs I put a rear wheel bearing in it,they can be prone for these as they do get water in due to the design but there not expensive and doddle to fit,may know wheres theres one for sale as a friend in my village is on about upgrading, make sure you don't get caught with the newer models which have high road tax

mine was geartronic, never had a problem with it,I would have another one tomorrow cant beat them for a family car,not great on fuel about 30 ish around town but better on a run its a big motor and with AWD your going to use a bit.
I think the tax change was 2007,just ask whoever your buying it off.

I'm a tech at a Volvo dealership. They have Haldex center diff(like VW cars), so it's not a true 4wd like a Range Rover.
D5 engine is the best thing about the car. Very reliable and fuel efficient. Auto trans will have problems if it is not good serviced or high mileage. But manuals also suffer from a leaking hydraulic clutch bearing..
Front subframe bushes and engine mounts get old and you get noises and rattle inside the cabin, but it's not the end of the world.
Also all front lower wishbone bushes crack with age and the car gets unstable when braking.
If it is a 7-seater, there's some little plastic stops that break and don't let you open the third row of seats.
In the electronics part, the reader from the NAV shits itself, there is a recall from leaking firewall that lets water inside the central fusebox and all gets funny.
Not all suffer these failures, but it is not unsual to have all these happen ito the SAME car!
Be sure to get a good looked after one, because it can get very very expensive in repairs.
