Is it possible?
No, dervs work under high pressure and the pump is a big major major component, which does more then literally circulate the fuel. In the case of modern common rail modern dervs they work under extreme pressure!

Don't forget even the lift pumps are designed to be lubricated by the diesel. Run a nice solvent such as petrol through it and it will probably bugger it in a very short time.

Most newer diesel lift pumps operate at around 0.5bar as the high pressure pump creates a vaccuum to pull diesel hence why you need to bleed most diesel fuel systems when the filters been changed. If you try using a petrol fuel pump on a diesel I dare say you could potencially damage the hp pump as most petrol fuel pumps are a lot higher pressures. By all means try it but I no I wouldn't risk it on my car mate

Only vehicles with a high pressure pump that cannot suck and that have no lift pump at the tank require manual bleeding.
And any electric pump will only create pressure if there is a restriction in front of it and it is capable of creating pressure.

To be fair everytime I change a fuel filter I soak it in fresh diesel first a few years ago I didn't d this on a transit van and by f@@k could I get it started lol.
Does anybody know if a diesel pump runs continuesly? Or just enough t get it up to the engine pump?
