Default Damage to diff, help find the cause please?

Can anyone guesstimate what has caused this damage to a 2wd rear diff? It's fitted to a 330bhp Saph and has run SAE 90 oil since fitting under a week ago. Any help would be greatly appreciated

was it rebuilt before it was fitted?

or did you buy a used one and just bolt it in with some new oil?

torque kills the crown and pinion, not the planets, possibly the bearings were too tight.loose

Lol torque brakes the side gears! Then you fit a gripper or a quaife and torque brakes the c.w.p!

What does JB think? He's had experience with diffs.

I blew a few RWD Saff diffs and the planet gears looked like that after a hard launch generally. Saying that, I bought a second hand diff once that was supposed to be good that came from a running car. I fitted it and it soon broke but I didn't launch it - I simply came on boost going up a hill! That turned out to be planet gears.

Obviously had a fair amount of strain on it but certainly wasn't mistreating it.

Look at the pitting on the gear teeth lol if there's lots they were worn! Is there any teeth missing from the gears? Maybe one was loose in the diff or finally gave in and came free then went through the gears!

I have refrained from posting as I've wanted to see people's views on the matter and the only reason I am posted is for Trev. If the planet gears were broken in half as pictured would they of lasted 7 days in the car?

I have confirmation text diff was fitted on 23/04/2013 and a text dated 30/04/2013 saying diff was dead. I also have pictures of the last diff removed from the same car with snapped planet gears.

I have literally just spoke with him and his confirmed everything I believe and explained how the planet gears actually work which makes things easier to understand.

I'm not getting into an argument on here or anything, I will text later mate to discuss.

it "appears" that there is a lot of wear on the shaft in the remaining pic, which could be caused by the gears breaking up and also the chipped teeth in the remaining gears as shown

but why BOTH of them have split in half rather than just sheared the teeth off.......

A diff from my old cossie after a launch at Pod, that doesn't happen without a launch imo. A used cossie 2wd rear diff is not the sort of thing to come with a guarantee surely?

unless the diff was ex rayed before you bought it you would never know the condition nor would Steve even tho it worked it could have had a hairline crack in the gears.

this is the risk i think we all take buying secondhand parts i think its a 50/50 situation.

Why not text me again then mate instead of posting on here? I'm not arguing on an Internet forum as that's just childish. You have my number feel free to express anything you wanna say, but I believe I have been fair and clearly explained my view on this situation.

Surely nobody can ever expect a warranty on a second hand cossie diff! Especially when it is being fitted to a non standard car!

The thing with this is it last 7 days after fitting! So how can Fletch know how you have treated it. The diff was working when you fitted it, which means it would have been working when Fletch sold it.
