What ECU would you use from this list if.....
.......they were all the same price and easily avalible for the YB?
L8
P8
SECS S8 (bare in mind plug and play)
Autronic SM4 (new loom needed)
Please pretend say Stu could map them all.
Please put your tuner love to one side and be totally honest....

Philm...have you looked at the autronic though or are just saying it because of your friendship for Simon?
If i am honest myself i cant pick autronic yet as i havent used it...S8 is too basic and would put the P8 ahead of it.

Thats unbiased mate! Just the concept of the S8, having flashable memory, so as it evolves as a product, existing owners can just Flash upgrade thier units and enjoy the latest features (Antilag etc etc).
It seems (and im not 100% sure), that with Autronic, when new features come out, they come out on the new ECU.....
Thats why I picked S8! If it wasnt S8, it would be the SM4 over the Weber ecus!

TBH and i know Mark wont moan at me...i do think you are right!!!!...I wanted traction control but i have to have SM2 or wait till SM5....for some reason they dont want to end the SM2 production so have not put it on SM4 BUT SM4 has boost control per gear so i guess that is as good as traction control

no not just because its cheap, i like the function of s8, plus i dont require all the function you want, i dont want launch control etc etc I only require very simple functions but S8 gives me the flexibility if i want more. I dont see the point in spending mega money on an ECU if im not going to use all its feaures, so s8 is perfect for me.
As regards who's building my engine i havent decided yet, but Mark is one of the people who i would trust to build my engine. Along with a few other choosen people.
At the moment the cars taken a back seat as i have other interests at the moment

I would also say S8, but only because of the amount of time it would take to sort out a loom for the Autronic. The S8 is plug and play and has all the functions of the lower spec Autronic, with the ability to be upgraded to the higher spec as and when these functions have been developed. Putting all biased feelings aside, the S8 ECU has the "potential" to be as good as the rest IF Simon can sort his act out .
However, the ECU of choice has to be a second hand T6 2000 - for the price of a new SM4, you have full plug and play with a few minor mods required... .

Mike the SM4 comes with a made loom and all sensors...hardly a big job changing the engine loom!!!!Atleast you'd know you got a BRAND NEW loom which is advisable aint it as putting S8 on a 20year old one is asking for trouble!

If it is possible for me to make a comment without the usual shit throwing please....
I actually agree with MadRods comments here.
If your chosen tuner recomends a particular ecu type/brand and its within
your budget then go for it as it is provided as part of a package.
The tuner is therfore providing also some kind of guarantee should your engine
decide to liquify when going flat out.
However, not everyone has deep pockets and some ecu brands can only be
mapped/accessed by the chosen few which opens up the need for other options.
Also, a particular brand/make/type does not mean more power.
