starting a 98 impreza sti without keys?
As above peeps, are they immobilised as standard?
When imoved into my flat I noticed an Impreza that looked like it had been sitting for a while and on further inspection noticed the tax had run out nearly 3 years ago, after a bit of digging I've spoken to a woman who is married to the fella who owns it, it turns out he was sent to prison for 12 years and that she is going to send it to the scrapper as she is moving in a few months so I said I would give her over scrap value for it, only thing is she has no keys for it so can it be started without them?
I only want to break the car but id like to hear the engine run before selling it for obvious reasons.
I know this sounds like a bit of a dodgy question but I assure you its genuine

If it's a genuine sti (and not just badges/stickers) there is not a standard imobiliser fitted. If it turns out it's a uk car then it will have an imobiliser. You can find the info on how to bypass it online, just search for apexi power fc fitting to uk car on that year (the power fc ecu does away with the stock imobiliser)

Here's a 98 Sti, says 97 but it's a v4 Sti so if your car is a 98 Sti it should look like this, unless it's reg late 98 on an S and it'll be a V5 Sti and have large rear wing http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1998-SUBAR...tem2ec75c18ea_
Sti seats, red stitched steering wheel & knob, Sti front wing badges, pink grill badge, rev counter is in centre, larger than speedo & up to 9krpm, rear wiper, red/black rear lights, aerial on Ns/r wing
A uk car will obviously not have the Sti bits unless added. Seats will be black with white inserts, rev counter Off to right speedo in centre, no rear wiper, no aerial on rear wing.

Import Subarus do not rot anywhere near as bad as UK Subarus. Although I guess a lot of that will depend how long they have been in the UK.
But Ive worked on hundreds of them, the imports are always better despite less underseal. Even a friends 24 year old import Legacy is in superb condition compared to some UK cars many years younger.

UK cars will have an immobiliser.
As for parts...little odds really. There are more UK cars about, so more potential buyers for parts. But almost nothing on an STI is that much better that it carries a noticeable premium when it comes to used parts.
