Im shocked that something of this scale has happened without ebay even being slightly suspicious, all the time im loosing faith in ebay, its a crooks paradise and so easy to just disappear..
The worst thing about ebay in my opinion in the majority of cases its the buyers.

I make my living off ebay and a small amount of subcontract work, I effectively manage 10-15 ebay accounts (none related to this crook!) and from what I have witnessed, in the last 12 months is rediculous.

Both cases based upon the cheapest class of unrecorded post...

on standard e-commerce, about 0.1% of people complain that an item hasnt turned up - roughly in line with what the royal mail state there loss rate is - you build this into pricing and forget about it.

on ebay, around 6-7% of items go missing.... with experience you can tell the genuine cases and the fakes a mile off! And then they try to extort you for a refund rather than replacement through threatening negative feedback (to date I have had ebay remove 20-30 negative feedback this year through proof of feedback extortion), the customer service level on ebay is also rediculous - as a seller you are expected to reply immediately (we had a customer buy something on friday at 7:30pm for £1.95, ask to cancel it an hour later (I was on holiday till monday) and send me a repeat message on saturday, a repeat message on sunday, and a fourth message threatening me with ebay resolution centre on monday at 9am as I was clearly a fraudster trying to rip her off as I had ignored my emails!

And even those that you refund immediately, are courteous and polite still leave negative feedback stating your rude and arrogant.

I am not defending scammers on ebay - for there are many fraudsters on both a buyer and sellers front, the fees are rediculous but I dont have time to go into that, but don't tar all sellers with the same brush as this dick - there are a lot of us out there who go well out of our way to give the best possible service we can to make a living.

Escalated my claim for a refund and got a reply within 1 minute to state full refund made.

The item has completely disappeared off my ebay home page and item is no longer recognized so can't leave feedback etc...

Seems very odd, great service from the mid 2000's up to the start of this year then all of a sudden nothing, no comms, and everyone getting full refunds, all accounts closed. Has something actually happened to the fella?

Opened a claim at PayPal on the 13th but have to wait until 23rd before I can get my refund. I doubt the seller will respond during that date but if he do I really want the parts. I bet most of us actually want the parts and not refund.

I would be really surprised if this was a scam. Far too many things just don't add up for me.

This ^

I might have something to do over the next few days that could take me near the area (if I go a little scenic on the road trip)

If I was nearer, i.e. living in the town I'd have gone there the day I saw the address

I'd agree that something has happened to him, if he was a thief he would have withdrawn all the money from his paypal account and no one would be getting any money back.

Anybody who paid via PayPal and stuck to there rules when claiming back would get a refund, there insured for things like that and to be honest I couldn't give a toss what's happened to him,

Cheers

Got my full refund today as I was one of the fucked over ebayers! Was in my local motor factors today discussing the whole sham with the guy who works there. He told me that this David Laine has apparently been ripping people off since March this year to the tune of approximately £65,000!!!! He had been told this by a local RS breaker.
